I'm thinking about getting a new dvd burner and was wondering how the lite on is. I read about a lot of problems with the 4x model that may have been fixed with firmware. Is the 811 a good drive? BTW I dont buy media online so all my discs will be name brand if that matters.

  4. it was doing the lead-out on a dvd+rw and wouldnt stop. i waited 5-10 minutes to see if it would finish, but it didnt. i tried ending the task and even though nero wasnt on, it was still burning and the computer wouldnt restart or shutdown. had to do manual shutdown, and when i put any disc in it couldnt read it anymore. was also making a funny noise so i sent it back RMA. gonna switch up to plextor 708. lata.

  5. I am using the 811S. So far only burned DVD-r with it. Since I am a total noob I can assume that the problems I have had are mine. When I turn everything else off, including norton, and burn a dvd I can get a good disc in about 14 minutes with 2x media and nero 6.

I must say though, that the first couple I burned produced an error message in nero and the last half of the movie was unplayable. I am unsure if it is the media or the operator--but I have been using lite-on dvd players and cd burners for years without a single hiccup so I must assume that it is me and not the burner. If you look in the documentation for the drive it specifies what kind of media work best and the first batch of disks I bought are not on that list so go figure.

You should pay about 145 for that 8x burner thru newegg.com.
