  1. What info do the media code give you? Is there a big different between different media codes? Is there some mediacodes you should avoid?

    yes if you have discs with media code an30 ,an31 and amr these discs deserve to be reflectors in a duck pond

    I've burned AN31 (100 piece spindle) at 4x in my Sony DRU-500A with zero coasters.

    AN32 is another story, they won't even initialize the write stage before giving a power calibration fail.

    So many factors affect the end quality of a burned disc. Some discs, however, are definitely better than others to start with. This is what a media code can tell you (once you know what to look for).

    You need to find what works for you and stick with it.
