  1. I have just built a computer around a AMD XP 2500 CPU with a Gigabyte GA-7VT600-L motherboard and Windows XP home. If I leave for instance a CD rom in the drive and reboot the computer the disc is always recognised but if I interchange discs ie with programs on them or music etc then the drive doesnt recognise them? The disc are all in good condition and retail discs. So my question is I suppose why does the drive only recognise discs when you leave them in the drive and reboot the computer? I have done all sorts removing drivers checking IDE cables/swapping them, changing from slave to master to cable and back again. Turning off CD copy in Windows XP itself.Changing DMA to PIO options for the drive etc etc...and back again. The stange thing as well is when I put a CD rom into the drive the drive icon`s name in windows XP changes from DVD R/RW to CD ROM DRIVE and then back again as I take out the CD. Is this a symtom of the problem or am I just clutching at straws here? Please help as this has been going on now for 2 weeks and I`m going mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
