  1. I'm creating a customized karaoke dvd with 18 chapters. I've ripped each chapter from various dvd individually and then merged them together to 1 single vob file using vobmerge. I then imported that vob file into dvdlab. I added the chapter points and made sure there were 18. After that, I created a chapter menu, which I linked these chapters correspondingly. When I'm done, I compiled the dvd and tested it with powerdvd and it showed there are 19 chapters. Why so? I created only 18 chapter points. Can someone help?

You don't suppose there is a default chapter at the very start ?

  3. if I assume the start of the movie is chapter 1, then I created only 7 more chapters....however, when I link these chapters correspondingly, the menu does not work...all the chapters point to chapter 1 when I click on each chapter using powerdvd....the next and prev buttons do not work either....both buttons go to chapter 1 when I press them....please help

  4. here are the steps that I did...hope someone can help

    1. open the vob file from "assets" window, select "use it w/o demuxing" and hit ok
    2. drag the vob file from "assets" window to "movie 1" window
    3. manually creating chapter points (total is 18 ), first chapter is 1 sec right after start of movie
    4. add texts to "menu1"...the texts simply say chapter 1, chapter 2, chapter 3...chapter 18
    5. link each chapter (1-18 ) in menu1 to the corresponding defined chapters in movie1
    6. select project-->compile dvd with default settings and hit close when done
    7. select tools-->ifo ediot-audio and defined 2 audio languages...hit ok when done

the connections diagram is as follow: first play and title--->menu1-->movie1-->menu1

I did these steps and there was an extra chapter...please help

By default DVDLab creates chapter entry for the beginning of the movie. So your chapter 1 becomes 2 etc. with chapter 1 linked to a movie start. That's normal. To correct it follow previous post. Best way would be to verify if chapters are properly linked and live with 19 (least trouble). If as you indicated chapters are not linked properly test it within DVDLab using simulation/follow links (remote popup) and fix links.

  6. correct me if I am wrong...I came to the following conclusion after hours of playing with dvdlab and researching:

You cannot create a menu out of a joined vob file from multiple sources. Someone mentioned that DVDLab olny allow you to create the menu correctly if the joined vob file is the whole movie from a single disk.

I noticed the timecode for the joined vob file from multiple sources is not correct. For instance, a karaoke disk has 20 chapters, let's say I rip chapters 1, 2, 7, and 18. I then join these vob files. Import the joined file to dvdlab and the timecode I saw is as follow: ch. 1 runs from 0:0:0:0-0:4:59:00, chap 2 0:4:59:00-0:7:59:00, ch.7 0:34:25:00-0:39:24:00....and so on....why did dvdlab pick up the timecode where chapter 7 and 20 were on the original disk?...can ch.7 timecode starts right after ch.2? this only happens with vob files from same source...when I join vob files from multiple sources, sometime I see negative timecode....I hope future version of dvdlab will let me make my menu

  7. No end of people run into this kind of problem.

    Consider these points:
    • A VOB is a mixture (muxture) of video, audio subpicture, cell information, timecode etc. This info is read by the player in the .IFO and VOB

Joining VOB clips from 1 DVD will already cause problems but joining from unrelated DVDs is even worse.

A VOB Set can only have one definition (the IFO) and the Aspect Ratio, Audio Typ and Channel count must be the same all through.

IfoEdit can "Strip Streams" which - when you leave ALL checked effectively re-writes the VOBSET !
Thats the way to do it for clips from a single DVD.
It may work for clips from different DVDs but its a matter of luck really.

DVD Lab will cope better with raw streams because it can then write fresh VOBs and IFOs. Ok thats not what you want cause you loose your K.

    My suggestion:
Author a Multiple VTS either with DVD Shrink in re-author mode (see DVDShrink.info)
    OR
Making a multiple VTS with Ifoedit for a Menu produced with DVD Lab

  9. Hi,
I got similar problems, but I think that the most serious problem with DVDlab when creating a Karaoke DVD is that you cannot create chapters in a joined or merged VOB. Actually you can create the chapters but the navigation with the Next/Previous buttons does not work.
