XP Home OS. When I reboot my computer, click on my name to open, I get error message that I have no paging file. It then takes about 15 minutes to go from welcome screen to my desktop. I followed the directions to a "t" that were given in the error message but that did not work, did it 3 times. Can anyone tell me how I can recover my pagefile? Thank you for your help.

I use W2K here but it is my understanding that your "pagefile" is just a temp file that has "boundaries" and as your machine runs and you execute programs, etc, this space is used like additional "memory". The operating system will "swap out" programs, etc as you use up your regular ram.
The only way I believe you could lose your "pagefile" would be to change it under the performance (W2K) options and set it to "0".
Once the system boots you could not even "delete" the pagefile as the system has it in use....
Wish I could help more about getting your pagefile back but I'm not sure of the location for the option to set it as I use W2k, but hopefully someone else here can give you that piece of your puzzle...
    Good Luck..

mackntracks thank you for taking time to reply. My pagefile is as you say showing "0" but I have tried resetting it using the "custom setting" as instructed by the error message but that does not work, guess I will just have to live with it, good ole Bill Gates has left another disgruntled customer in the dark. Thanks again for the info.

Make sure that you hit "apply" (it has this box under W2K) before you hit ok..... I also prefer to set the "min" and "max" settings to be the same so the pagefile doesn't not expand and contract... find that performance is increased, especially if you can move the pagefile to a drive (fast) that does not contain the operation system...
    As before check out Ars...

  5. I think you meant to say "Make sure you click on the "set" button before you click [apply] and [ok]"

Thanks very much to both of you for trying so hard to help. I did exactly as you say, I even have both the min and max set to 1536 and still no luck in correcting the problem.
