Hi there, first off thanks for taking your time to read my question, answer is needed desperately. I have put together a couple of VOB files (got them as .vob and not .mpg) to make a DVD. I began authoring using Ifoedit, and then followed by TMPG DVD Author. However, after doing everything, I encountered a problem for its final outputting. The error msg is "*The combined bitrate of the clip exceeds the upper limit for a standard DVD.
The combined bitrate of the video and audio of clip "xxxx" of track "xxxx" is exceeding the upper limit for a standard DVD.
The current bitrate is xxx kbps for video, xxx kbps for audio, and xxx kbps combined.
It is necessary with a combined bitrate of less than 9.848Mbps (9848kbps).*"
I was wondering if there is any solution to this or if there are any softwares out there that allows u to directly encode the audio of the VOB into a lower bitrate (my total bitrate was 11xxx), I did try and burn a copy, but when I load it into my standalone player (Philips 729K series) it wont load and saez NO DISC..as I've really spent a past whole day trying to figure things out. Thanks again. ^-^

You can try Virtual Dub mod and frameserve to TMPGEnc.
Hello. -
How much 'Over' the limit are you?
I have seen others post the same problem. It seems (though this is not from personal experience) that TmpGenc DVD author is a little 'tight' on the figures it uses to give that warning and more often than not you can ignore it (it is just a warning, not a fatal error I believe) and everything will be OK.
Remember though, I am just reporting on other peoples experience here, so no guarantees. -
I have hit the combined bitrate wall with tmpeg author many times.
The error usually presents itself in a black font dialogue box. (NOT RED)
I generally proceed to my burn and all is well.
The fact that you player says "NO DISK" is puzzling.
I would suspect bad media or bad burn if your ifoedit compilation went well.
Did you try your compilation in a software player to verify it is viable???
Even before your ifoedit efforts, did you play just the vobs to see if they were OK??
Have you burnt succesful dvds that played before this upset????
Just take it one step at a time.
1 play raw vobs to verify they work
2 use ifoedit to create ifos.
3 GET VTS SECTORS
4 play ifoedited creation in software player
5 if it plays then proceed to author your creation, ignoring bitrate warning.
6 play authored creation in software player to verify all is well.
7 proceed to burn, verifying you have AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders.
The folders are generally created for you automatically in tmpeg.
I use author version 1.5.15.49. It has a built in burn engine. If that is
what you used for your burn, that may also be an issue. I have had a
few mishaps with their burner and have since reverted back to recordnowmax.
Hope this is of some help to you.

Not a good title to this thread - its better to have some indication as to the content.
A lot of experts avoid such threads so you do yourself no favor if you reduce the readers from the start.
You can change it by using the edit button.
Hope this helps -
Hi all thanks for your reply. Really appreciate your help. First off, I just remembered the .vobs are NTSC files, while I am from Singapore (uses PAL system) does it matter?
I am over the limit of the "standard dvd-video" by about 2000kbps. I have ignored the warning and tried burning a copy of the dvd-video anyways.
KIKI>> There wasnt any error while doing the IFOEDIT proceedure on my vobs. I usually play my vobs on my computer, and they play well. After burning my dvd-video, I tested on my standalone player and had the "NO DISC" msg on its screen. I popped the disc into my computer, and it auto-run the whole dvd-video, however, No menu was seen, it just played all the videos in the compilation. This is my first-time burning a dvd-video and I've been going through many of the guides here >_< to learn, haha, even before I decided to get the dvd-burning rom. But alas, wasnt as ez as I thoughtOh yes, I used their built-in burning rom found in TMPEG DVD Author. Seen some posts recommending using NERO instead, and selecting a 1.02 DVD tab thingy.
TommyKnocker>> is there a guide to doing the steps that you mentioned?
Thank you all! -
I've encountered this problem of bitrates exceeding the limit.
I had a project of MPEGs with multiple menus. I ignored the error message and the menus didn't work correctly.
I re-saved the MPEGs in MPEG Video Wizard's "custom" mode, which allowed me to manually adjust the bitrate of both the audio and video portions of the file.
The audio was 224kbps, the video was 9800, and as you say, the message says that the combined bitrate can't exceed 9848. I wanted to keep the audio sharp, so I adjusted the video bitrate to 9624, which doesn't show much change in sharpness of picture.
I don't have a full report though: the new files definitely pass the test in TMPEG DVD Author, they load well and there are no output error messages concerning those adjusted files.
But I'm still in the middle of this job, sharing this much info as I look around for advice here about how to adjust those bitrates faster, because MPEG Video Wizard is normally very fast, but adjusting these bitrates takes longer (a 400 meg file took forty-five minutes.)
Hopefully this helps someone, and hopefully someone can suggest a faster way to adjust the video bitrates.
