  1. I live in Canada and I want to get myself a divX Dvd player. I tend to want the best, but I can't figure out which that is at the moment. I think the best two I have seen on the net are the KiSS DP-500, and the Neuston Maestro DVX-1201. I am open to any other player, but I require the player to definetely be able to play all my divx 3, 4 and 5 videos and XVid. I have older videos that are on 3.11, so I need it to work good. A lot of them are version 4 and many version 5 vids, and most new vids are now XVid.

Although I think that it might work, I just want to confirm if it is possible to read multiple divx files from a DVD+R? I have already backed up a lot of my media to DVD+Rs and some DVD-Rs, so will they work?

I am open to any player no matter how high or low the price is. I just need some help deciding on which one to choose. I will likely end up ordering from ebay.ca (No divx players are normal retail in Canada). Is it even worth spending this much money on a higher end player like these two ($300-$500 CAD) when I can spend less than $200 CAD on the LiteON LVD-2002 (www.ncix.com/canada). Is this player worth getting (if I don't mind spending more)?

Options like SVCD, optical out and component out are all required as well.

There are lots of great sounding players, but I am not sure if they are good DivX playback with their latest firmware. I like the sounds of some players, like the NeuNeo (less than $200 CAD plus free DVDs), but I am unsure about how they stack up against the others.

I would love to have one around Christmas time. Any help you can give would be great.

  2. well another one you can throw in the mix is the AVX X-100. check info on it in the dvd player list and there is a thread on it in this section of the forum. it sounds like a great player and could be the best divx player around.

  5. Thanks for all the great info.

I have been reading about the AVX-100 for a few months also, sounds promising, but it is not even released yet. Since this is their first outing making a commercial divx dvd player, there are bound to be a few problems. I believe every company from Kiss and Lite-On to Yamada is on at least their second version of their respective versions because their is always something that needs to be fixed after being mass tested out when people buy them and complain. No one really reads reviews to find out what was good, just whats the bad. I can't find any "real" reviews on it.

Is there anyone who has any experience using the KiSS DP-500, the Yamada DVX-6100 or the Neuston Maestro DVX-1201?
If you had the choice now that you have used one, which would you choose any why?

  7. well actaully you can buy the avx 100 now, its on thier site for a few weeks. i agree its new, but it seems more geared towards divx play then any of the others have been, more dedicated to it with firmare and such, but i wait to hear some real reviews myself.

  8. That Bravo D1 player seems amazing! The DVI-Out is such a good idea, I am surprised not more companies are doing it.

Unfortunatly, this player is not to media friendly. As it says in the FAQ:
Discs it cannot play: DVD-RW, DVD+RW, etc

These are my main file type for temporary movies, so this player is definetly not going to be an option.

I believe the player will playback DVD-RW but don't know about DVD+RW. Also they say it doesn't do Divx 3.1 while in fact it does from the three revies I have read.

  10. Getting harder to find but look at the Lite-on LVD-2001 or the 2002. The 2001 supports highter resolutions and has a couple of added features. Pricing is $150 USD.

Reads Divx 3,4,5 (though Divx 3.11 still has some problems). Reads Xvid great. CDR, CDRW, DVDR, +/- RW etc. Plays MP3s and all that. Great all in one player.

www.liteonit.com Look under the DC product line.

  11. I just bought a KiSS DP-500 from Amazon. I like it very much fun its functions, obviously KiSS is on its own level.
    1. upgrade firmware and region free are very easy.
    2. ethernet connection, you can play all your divx and xvid moives from your PC's hard drive. This is the most advanced function I can find with other brand players. The format of mpeg 4 can be avi, mpg, mpeg and vob. It's a shame all my svcd mpeg 2 can't be played directly from my PC.
    3. But I don't need to use the complicate and time comsuming method introduced here to make a SVCD on DVD disk. Just copy all the svcd mpg files to my DVDR and burn it. My DP-500 can play it. So all my 24 Season One SVCD was burned to 4 DVDRs.

If you have enough money you can wait for KiSS DP-1500 series with wireless network function which is even more convenient. Now you can buy a Liteon for intergrade.
