I am wanting to purchase the Plextor PX-708UF drive for quite some time taking it between the office and home. However, I have not been able to get a sufficient amount of feedback on the drive.
If anyone has this drive and can tell me the pros and cons, besides the price which I am aware of, I would greatly appreciate it.

I was considering as an alternative to purchase a Pioneer DVR 106 and throw it into an external firewire/USB2.0 box.

    Thanks

  2. Well, I dont have the UF but I do have a 708A. I am sure with USB2.0/Firewire it will be just fine. I have used Plextor drives for years and love them and they are pretty much the only kind I will buy.

  3. i use a Plextor 708UF and am quite satisfied with it. Burns fast without problems sofar. Only negative comment i have it makes a lot of noise in idle mode. I therefore only turn it on when i want to burn something.
Don't know if this is a Plextor problem, maybe all external writers make a lot of noise.
