Is there a program that does it all?

I am taking video from my MiniDV camcorder and pictures from my digital camera, editing and converting them to MPEG2 with Video Explosion Deluxe. Then I have to use MyDVD to create menu's and transcode then burn to DVD. If I want extra copies, which I always do, I either have to go all the way through the transcoding process again for each disc, or I can use another program like CloneDVD.
I want a program that has the ease of video editing that Video Explosion has with ability to mix two or more video tracks, three or more audio tracks, with transitions and some effects, create DVD menus insert chapter points, create prefessional looking DVD, and maybe even allow me to make multiple copies of each disc.
Does anyone know of one program that does all of this? I'm willing to spend some dough if necessary...

Out of interest does MyDVD create an interim video_ts directory with files that get burnt to the DVD? If so you could use Nero to reburn those as many times as you like

I'm from the school which believes Pinnacle Studio 8 is superb for this although in truth, personally, I don't use it all.
For instance, I prefer TMPGEnc to encode and Ulead Movie Factory 2.0 to auther (oh, and RecordNowMax to burn) but the capability is all there.
This school I'm in, the school of 'Pinnacle is Great' has only a small number of pupils on this site it seems

Actually with MyDVD you have the option to burn to DVD, VCD, or DVD to hard disk which creates the Video TS file you are referring to. My version of MyDVD is version 3 which is a very outdated version. My complaint with MyDVD is it really has VERY limited editing capabilities cannot add chapter points to video unless it is captured from tape not to existing video on my computer. As an authoring program it seems to be OK. I've read that the newer versions are better than my copy. The newest version has the ability to create custom menu's and submenu's as well as the ability to add an audio track to the menu, just like the big boys!

I'm still not getting everything all in one application though. Ulead MSP 7 uses one program to capture, another to edit, and another to author, all three are easily compatible though and don't use up unnnecessary hard drive space. The video editor seems to be a little more complicated to use than Video Explosion, but even in the short time I've had it I can see why. MSP 7 is a VERY versatile program geared toward serious video authors and can do a heck of a lot more than the lesser programs can do. So for A LOT more controlability you get a little more work to put in transitions and effects, no big deal!
The DVD Authoring program, Ulead DVD Movie Factory is pretty good too. It has some great features, is very versatile and it took a fraction of the time to write the video as MyDVD did. 1/2 hour verses 3 hours, and at a slower write speed. Anyone care to speculate why? Got me stumped!
The other thing is the Disc authored on the Ulead DVD program plays in my DVD player when the same brand of disc authored with MYDVD would not. The only difference is that Ulead DVD movie factory allows me to control the write speed and I was able to slow it down a bit.

UPDATE

I've been using MSP7 for about 6months now and I'm very happy with it. Any problems I've encountered are not problems with the program but my lack of knowledge of how to use the many useful tools and shortcuts MSP7 provides. I learn something everytime I sit down and getting better all of the time.
My disc problems have been solved, not so much by slowing the write speed. Research, some of it here on these forums has taught me that not all discs are created equal. The dye's in DVD-R's degrades with heat, DVD's spin very fast creating a lot of heat. It's a self destructive process. We tried an experiment where we put a fully recorded DVD-R in the player and played it until it started stuttering and jumping. We popped it our, put it in the freezer for about 5 minutes then put it back in the DVD player and skipped forward to where the stuttering and jumping occured and it played fine. The problem is the heating and cooling process will ruin the DVD very quickly! Solution? So far the best solution we've found is to use DVD-RW They do not use Dye, they use a metallic powder. Therefore are less susceptable to the heat degradation. A little more expensive, but worth the price if you want a long lasting viewable disc.

That sounds too COOL! I'll have to try it some time. Is there any danger of wearing out the dvd player? Did you use a pc dvd-rom or a standalone?

The thought of quickfreezing a dvd sounds interesting. Neat post!

That was a trick I learnt when copying scratched music CDs when 4X cd burners were all the rage


It has gotten me over Cyclic Redundancy Checks with DVDs in the past also.

High PRAISE from a forum Veteran, thanks!! I'm something of a tech buff and have been into this stuff for a long time. My first attempt when I was really young was making my own matrix surround sound out of garage sale speakers (4 hooked up to my dad's old heathkit stereo). From then on I've been hooked on anything electronic, video or computer related.

I've not considered the potential for damage to the player. We did make sure that the DVD was dry, but I suppose that the warming process could cause condensation....
DVD was written on my PC with a Nec 1300 Using Video Explosion (I've since moved on to MSP7) We played the DVD on a variety of players with mixed results but none would play the DVD all the way from beginning to end without some kind of play problems until we switched over to DVD-RW then all video's have played fine since...[/quote]
