I have WinDVD installed. I could uninstall that too I suppose but for now I think I will wait until someone comes up with the definitive answer and just continue to use Shrink 3.0b5 for the time being.

  2. I installed package 2 over Nero 6.0.0xxxxx.....
I started up recode 2 and got a NeroAPI error Click OK and the program started. Got to the very end and it could see my Pioneer 106 so I couldn't burn it or create an image....

    Anyone else see this problem?

    Thanks

  3. I can't even get NeroVision 2 to work at all. I click on the program and it does nothing. It prevents me from running any other apps until I go to the Task Manager and end the NeroVision.exe process. Any ideas what would cause this to happen?

I'm using the full Nero 6.3 suite but this also happens with the previous version. Everything works except NeroVision Express.

I'm having trouble getting to the Nero Recode2 guides by Afonic on www.polarhome.com (this very site has links to these guides on the home page). Specifically, I want to know how to use Recode2 to split a DVD-9 into 2 DVD-5's.

Is anyone else having any problem accessing Afonic's guides? Does anyone have a solution?

As far as I know you can only do it the DVD Shrink's ways.

    1) First make a backup of the DVD using "Still pictures" for the extras, and then a backup applying "Still pictures" to the movie-title.
    or
    2) use the "Start/end" feature in "Re-author" mode to split the movie over two DVDs (losing the menus).
The following DVD Shrink guide should give you a pretty good idea how it's done.

For those who have used Recode2, how does it compare to Instant Copy, DVD2One, and DVDShrink when talking about picture quality. I really like Instant Copy's picture quality (even though it takes a longer time), but how is Recode2's picture quality?

  9. it looks very good. i made a backup of true lies using recode and instant copy, and recode did a better job.

How long is the encoding process? I know Instant Copy takes quite a while (about 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes) but how long does Recode2 take for the entire process from start to end? Doesn't it also burn the disk for you also? And one more question, does Recode2 keep the "main menu" like how Instant Copy does?

  11. think of it as a better dvdshrink. you can copy the whole dvd or you can re-author it just like dvdshrink, but you get better quality. how long it takes depends on if you want advanced analysis or not, and burnatonce or not along with length of movie. i burned an 2 1/2hr movie in about an hour with advanced analysis. came out great.

  12. finally had a chance to try out this software. It is pretty damn good. I backed up Seabiscuit and it replaced the extra with 46 mb. Backup with shrink and i got 160 mb of still picture (extra), and with clonedvd the extra was 80 mb. Couple of cool features i like about Recode, it tells you the mb/per sec, and the auto-select on the audio track. PQ came out pretty good with Recode.

I tried Recode2 a couple of nights ago and I wasn't very impressed. I think i'll stick with Instant Copy and DVD2One for now.

I have installed the recode and everytime I go to open it I get this message NeroAPI is required but not found. please reinstall using the nerovision express 2 installer. When I click the OK button the program comes up and goes through the process of loading the dvd and when I go to the next menu there is no dvd burner reconized and I cant burn the dvd. Is there a reason why this happens. yea also what is ANYDVD and is it in the tool section?

I suspect your running a copy of Nero that not using a Nero serial number.
The neroapi.dll is on your system, search for the file and copy it into the Nero and Recode directory's. This might solvle your problem.

  18. i had this problem before, but i dont know how i got rid of it. i did try moving the .dll into the nero and recode directories though, and that didnt work. just try d/ling the nero 6.3.0.0 demo again with no serial number or anything and see what happens.

  20. I installed Nero Express package #2, and I currently have Nero 5.xx installed. Everything seems to work fine, BUT Nero Showtime player associatted all my media files to itself! Is there a way to uninstall just the media player? I tried uninstalling the entire package, but it left Showtime on my computer!! Bloatware?? I know I can reassociatted the files manually, but is there a easier way? Is there a universal program that will do this? (besides windows way, which list all media files seperate and is a pain in the azz)

Last but no least, is the 2-pass option on Recode the same as the "Deep Analysis" mode of DVD Shrink? If not, what does the Deep Analysis do?

I've not had a chance to play with Recode much since 2 came out but I assumed that 2 pass was only for Mpeg4 output. Am I wrong?

I gave Nero Recode a try with a really long movie (Harry Potter 2) keeping everything. This took like 20 minutes on a P4/2.8 CPU.

Comparing the result with DVD2One Movie only and a single soundtrack, I think that Recode is better in fast motion and dark scenes compared with DVD2One. In the rest of the movie, I didn't notice a difference. NOTE, THIS IS COMPARING A FULL DVD WITH A MOVIE ONLY ONE.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

Recode doing the full-disc and DVD2One the movie-only, right?
    Very impressive.
