  1. go to nero.com and download the update. Nero Recode 2 cannot be used with CSS-encrypted DVD's. Only way around this is to use DVD-Decrypter or Smart Ripper.

Does anyone know if Nero Recode 2 will work with DVD-Region Free, DVDIdle Pro, or AnyDVD to bypass the CSS-encryption?

  2. I have the entire original Nero 6 Ultimate Suite on CD, but only wish to install Recode (and then update it with the latest). i'm running 5.5.10.42 and do not want to install 6.0xx cuz the former is working perfectly. anyone know if this is possible, and HOW

  3. You can but you have to have a serial for Nero v6.0. I use Nero v5.5.10.42, but downloaded NeroVision Express (with Nero Recode 2) and applied my friends Nero v6.0 serial. It works!

Again, I use Nero Burning Rom v5.5.10.42 to burn DVD's, but use the latest NeroVision Express v2.1.0.3 for my dvd editing.

    Hope this helps

  4. hey Slumpey
thanks for the info. i have the serial from my CD. Question: do i have to also install NeroExpress 6? is Recode an utility (ie plugin) within the host (Express) program? or is it a separate program outside of Express? thanks for your help

  5. There are 3 programs in the NeroVision Express update...NeroVision Express, Nero Recode 2, and Nero Showtime.

You install the update and get all 3 programs. You can install the update without having to install Nero v6.0.

  7. To slumpey:

I have just used Recode V2 to back up 2 DVD's. NO Problems at all and they looked great. I love the amount of control we have over compression. Forgot the most important part, used with AnyDvd.

When oh when will peopole "wake up" and realize that outside of CD burning NERO sucks donkey balls.

I mean really now. Don't be silly. You have TMPGEnc and CCE and Maincepts and a host of burning software including the FREEWARE combo of ImgTool Classic and DVD Decrypter.

Are you guys using the demo version of Recode 2 to do your tests? I downloaded it and it installed OK but when I try to run and select the "Copy Entire DVD to DVD" function is tells me that I need to purchase a DVD Video Plugin and wont let me go any further. So to me it seems the demo can't actually be demo'd at all or have I overlooked something??

Happened to me too. Use Nero Smartstart instead to start it without problems

I presume you are kidding with your hrmmm flaystus and are fully aware of the situation

but as for the other users who still can't see it, then it's now no big secret what's happening. Maybe people can now speak the truth instead of all the so called rumours that forever get dispelled

I posted what I think of it over at Doom9 HERE and the best news is that DVDShrink is indeed still working on DVDShrink, as he has just hinted it HERE (just as ddlooping has been saying)

so let's squash this is he, isn't he thing that's going on with Recode and just wish him luck for the future whatever he does as he has contributed a lot to the DVDBackup world

so what's the next rumour anyone?

  18. at Noki,

Using just the single pass method, on 2 very short dvd's, it took 27 minutes from start to finish w/a samsung 16X dvd straight to my dru500. Hope this helps ya...Quality was fine w/only about 22% compression.

  19. Just perfect ...

Too bad that Mr Shrink had to remove the ripping function.
But we have AnyDVD don't we...

One very nice thing about Recode 2 is it corrects the ifo file to correctly reflect the audio streams you actually select. That way the DVD sound track will autoplay the audio when you load the DVD,no need to cycle thru the audio streams with the remote control.

  21. Found 1 thing that Nero Recode 2 can't do that DVD Shrink does...

You can't have multiple compressions levels for a movie. In other words, have the main movie at 75% compression and the credits at still pictures or 10% compression. The movie in Nero Recode 2 has to be at 1 compression level.

Besides this, I think Nero Recode 2 is great. Haven't tested all the features but both "Copy entire DVD to DVD" or "Remake a DVD" work without a hitch.

Anyone know if DVD Region-Free or DVDIdle Pro will work with Nero Recode 2?

I can see a few being dissapointed with this but personall its a small loss for 2 of my personal fav bits of software to become what at first glance appears to be one uber piece of software.

And yes I was aware of the Mr shrink thing, I'll say the same thing I said about Derrow, "Good for you, and even if you don't have the time to work on your little freeware tool then thanks for it. At least it was a a decently stable stopping point" And if he does continue work then well, it can only get better from here.

  23. Incredible. The remake option is unbelievably smooth for redoing TV show series into split discs, and the speed is nice and fast. Output is solid. Very impressed, basically, an unbeta DVDShrink 3.0 with a few extra features I like

Indo's suggestion that I start Recode 2 via the StartSmart interface to get aronud the DVD Video-Plugin error worked a treat so thanks for the suggestion!

However, I now have another problem. I can't get the preview window to display anything during either initial read of the DVD disc, the Deep Analysis or just interactively so I can watch the individual titles. While it doesn't bother me that I can't see it while it is ripping (I'm using AnyDVD) or encoding I do need to be able to see the previews so I can select what titles to remove. Obviously I know what the main movie is but I have no way of identifying what the other titles are without the preview window working.

Any idea as to what I might be doing wrong or what I might be missing? I ran DVD Shrink 3 Beta 5 again just to be sure that something drastic hadn't gone wrong by installing Recode 2 but its previews still work as expected.

It works if you do a fresh install of Nero 6300 Ultra suite, not the update

  26. The problem maybe your serial...

I too had the problem. I don't use Nero 6.3 Ultimate Suite for any of my DVD buring, but use Nero v5.5.10.54 instead. I like the old interface better, but wanted to install just Nero Recode 2 for DVD editing. Nero Recode 2 is part of Package #2 containg NeroVision Express, Nero Recode 2, and Nero Showtime.

The first time I installed Package #2, I got the DVD-Video error. I did a couple reinstalls including installing Nero v6.3 over Nero v5.5.10.54, but kept on getting the same message. I decided to go back to my old Nero and try installling Package #2 with ANOTHER serial (my friend's). The serial is for Nero v6.0.0.28 and it works for the new NeroVision Express v2.1.0.3!

The DVD-Video plugin is already included in NeroVision Express (Package #2), but can't be activated unless you have a working serial.

I use Nero v5.5.10.54 for DVD burning and NeroVision Express v2.1.0.3 (with Nero Recode 2) for DVD editing.

One other way that Recode is different from Shrink is the fact that if you have a dual processor machine it uses both processors to speed up transcode time. same movie that was 175 frames per second on my overclocked Athlon 2400 @2.35 GHz was 230 frames per second on my dual MP 1900 (1.6 GHzx2) machine with both processors pegged.

Just an FYI for the dually boys.

I just uninstalled all of the Nero applications and reinstalled from scratch. Still no preview window . I also still get the dialog about the DVD Video Plug in if I start Recode directly rather than via SmartStart. No doubt the two problems are related but I"m running out of ideas on how to fix it.

  29. Also now makes use of Athlon64 & Hyperthreading options..

Performance more then doubled on a FX51 processor; and about 40% faster on a P4 3.0G

May not be related but do you have DVD Player software installed on this system?
