  1. Hi,

I'm aware of that this question has to do some with dvd-authoring, but i feel i have a better chance of getting useful replies in this section, as the problem mainly has to do with discs burned with a certain DVD recorder, and I believe there are people reading this part of the forum that will be able to help me out :

I have made dvd-r's on my Panasonic DMR-E50 recorder.
I want to move SOME (not all) of these recordings to my harddrive, and reburn them on my pc dvd-writer with new menus (the menus doesn't have to be fancy or anything, as long as it works).

The big problem is that all DVD authoring programs i have tried can't read the VOB files created with Panasonic DMR-E50.
Please, is there someone in this forum that have done what I want to do: Copy certain selected VOB files from Panasonic DMR-E50 dvd-r's (or other Panasonic recorders that works similiar as DMR-E50) to the harddrive and then re-burning them with new menus, that are willing to guide me how to do this?
I would greatly appriciate your help!

  2. NeoDVD Plus will import the VOB files just fine and then you may use it to make your menu, add chapter marks if you want and then do the final burn for you. The program is fast and simple to use and understand.

  3. the easiest one that I have seen is TMPGENC DVD Author. It will do VOB (and if you want to save a dvd-r and use ram) it will also do vro.

What I have been doing with my e30 is record onto ram, put the disk into my ram reader on my computer. Use tmpgenc dvd author to create menus (from the disk) and then when I have it author it, it does everything from the disk (saves hdd space). The FINAL product is on my hard drive. I then use the tmpgenc dvd author burning tool (included) and burn it. I only put a total of 4'ish gig on my hdd when I do this.

  4. You can also put 'e50' 'e30' in the forum search box & read tons of prior topics on these disks.

Yes I agree that TMPGEnc DVD Author is the way to go. It will work from DVD-R but do yourself a favor and get a cheap DVD-ROM reader that can read DVD-RAM discs. That pays off in the long run believe you me!

  6. thanks guys for the suggestions,

i tried both NeoDVD and TMPGEnc DVD Author now, and stumbled upon the following problems:

NeoDVD: The VOB files are added, but NeoDVD splits each file up into 4-5 thumbnails on the menu. If I add a file which has video of 3 minutes or so, NeoDVD cuts it each 16th second and make a new thumbnail after each cut, and when viewing the disc there's a small stop where each cut is.

TMPGEnc DVD Author: The VOB files are added, and everything looks fine, but when I preview each file (clip), TMPGEnc has cut each clip down to a few seconds long only.

What could the reason for this be? I had similiar problems in other authoring programs. Either they don't read the Panasonic DMR-E50 files at all, or they do read them but cut them down to a few seconds long.
Please help! Anyone had the same problem or is it just me?

  7. I think the problem your having with NeoDVD is that the E50 automatically puts in chapters every five minutes and NeoDVD will only accept 49 movie clips. All these stupid editing programs seem to have some limitation or quirks that screws it up.

I've been editing my +RW's from my Philips 985 with Ulead Movie Factory 2 's "Edit Disc" function. Adds new menus right on the disc....never goes to the hard drive. Pretty damn cool if you ask me....although MF2 can be a bit quirky sometimes. There is one disc that I can't edit....not sure why. I'll have to re-record that vidotape to another +RW and try again.
