  1. i have an amd 1.3 processor with 640mb ddr ram and had my first foray into copying dvd's the other day.

I used dvd decrypter (via the user guides) and with no other programmes running it took 3 hours to finish its job. According to the guide it shouild have took about 20 mins. Is it because my pc is crap or am i doing something wrong?

Any suggestions as to how i can speed it up would be helpful - I know i could buy a newer processor and motherboard, but money is tight and if there are any cheaper options i would be happy to try.

    Thanks

3 hours is way too long, but it's not because your processor is too slow. Check the drive settings and make sure DMA is enabled. Then try it.

Did DVDDecrytor report errors? Also, there are 4 differnt ways for the DVDDecryptor to access your drive, of which only 2 will do better than 1x. Do you have the latest ASPI drivers installed? It sounds like you don't.

  5. i have tried a few other dvd's since posting the question and got a similar expected result time so not the media lordsmurf - thanks though.
I can't see a box for dma settings, only digital audio extraction - is that the same thing.

    Forgive me for being thick

Nope. It's under settings, you have ASPI, WINASPI, W2K/XP and some other one. You should download Adaptec's ASPI drivers. That is usually the key to getting DVDDecryptor and/or Nero to go full speed. There's a link in the tools section, and it really does work for most 1x speed issues.
