  2. Hi,

I don't know what kind of laptop you have. (How old). Or what kind of videocard is inside it, but it might be that your videocard just doesn't have/support hardware acceleration for video/dvd playback !!

You need DirectX 9 probably. Hardware acceleration is used in place of software emulation when possible. It's a DirectX thing, your DirectX drivers know what your card can and can't do. Did you run the PowerDVD settup utility so it can identify your card can and can't do?

I also have PowerDVD 5. I know exatly what the problem is. You are trying to enable hardware accelaeration while the dvd is playing in PowerDVD. you find its greyed out. powerDVD wont allow you to change this option while playing a DVD.

you must first stop playing the dvd in PowerDVD, then go to configuration, now you will find that you can check the enable hardware acceleration option.

    hope this helps.

try updating powerdvd with the latest patch from the cyberlink website. as you have a very basic graphics card, you can not going to see any improvements in quality.

the settings i use is to disable the hardware acceleration and use powerdvds CLEV technology which improves picture quality. you can select this in full mode and even half mode to see the quality difference you are playing. but be warned, this feature uses alot of processor power hence you will need a fast and powerful processor. can't remember what the recommended spec is, i think it should be above 500mhz at least.
