    Its just another type of audio noise reduction system thats been out for at least 30 years.Google it for more info.

    DBX is a noise reduction system. It is based on a compression/expansion principle.

    Turn back the clock to the 1980's....

    There were/are several flavors of it, some appearing on home equipment, others on pro and/or prosumer equipment. Pro DBX can get over 100dB signal to noise ratio in certain conditions.

    It never quite gained the consumer acceptance as Dolby B or Dolby C, although in my opinion, DBX offered better noise reduction. B&C were somewhat more listenable, though, if you tried to play them back on a non-dolby system. DBX sounds awful if you don't run it back through a DBX system.

  6. I believe it was originally created for analog cassette tapes and vinyl LPs before digital was around.
