  1. OK. I used DVDDecrypter to rip a movie. Then I reauthored it in DVDShrink and took out the parts I didn't want to get it under 4.7 GB. Then I used ImgClassic to turn the files produced by DVDShrink into an ISO file and burned it to disk with DVDDecrypter.

But it won't play on my DVD player. It doesn't come up with an error message or anything just doesn't do anything. It plays fine on WINDVD on my computer. Any ideas why this is?

    Thanks,
    Melinda

  2. Not all dvd players support dvdr or dvdrw playback.

  3. Oh, I should have mentioned this wasn't the first DVD+R that I made. The first I ripped an entire movie with DVDDecrypter and burned it. It plays fine in my DVD player. It is just this second one that I re-authored with DVD Shrink.

Thanks for the response though. Any other thoughts?

Converting the files into the ISO image with Imgclassic then burning with decrypter is prolly where the problem lies. There's really no need to do that tho, so I'm not sure why you went that route.

All you have to do, once you've reauthored with DVD Shrink, is put the files it produced into a folder named VIDEO_TS, then burn it onto yer dvdr using any DVD enabled burning software. While decrypter will burn ISO files, I would stop short of labeling it the ideal DVD burning software.

  5. Thanks Bodene for replying to me. I haven't had much luck on these boards

Here is the situation. I tried what you suggested first before going to the Imgclassic/DVDDecrypter method. My computer came with basic RecordNow by Sonic as the burning software. I used the DATA option because it was the only one that allowed me to drag and drop files from my computer. I did put all the files DVD Shrink created into a Video_ts folder and draged it into RecordNow and burned it. Again it would not play on my DVD player. Do you think I should try another burning software? I'm trying not to spend any more money that what the bloody computer already cost me that is why I went to the freeware method.

Your insight is very much appreciated!

  6. Hi all.

MarilynFan, when you created the image, did you create an image of the files, or an image of the "VIDEO_TS" folder with the files in it?
Also, did you include an empty "AUDIO_TS" folder, to increase compatibility?

  7. Hey ddlooping!

I created an image of the Video_ts folder with ImgClassic. No, I didn't create an empty Audio_ts folder. I'm glad I purchased some re-writeable DVD's so I can test these methods out now instead of making more coasters.

Could I ask a DVDDecrypter question while I have some responders. For the first movie I ripped and successfully played on my DVD player I used the ISO-READ option and it created a .ISO and .MDS file. What is the difference between the 2 files? I wrote the .MDS file to a disc with DVDDecrypter and that is the one that plays fine in my DVD player.

    Thanks!

  8. Melinda, have you gotten the PxEngine update for RecordNow? PxEngine50 is the most recent. And the latest firmware for your writer?
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

Try downloading Nero 6 Ultra, or RecordNowMax. Either one should work for u, and both have *try before u buy* full function demo periods. My dvd burner also came with the basic RecordNow, but I don't use it except for erasing DVD-RW's, which btw, it does remarkably well and fast. I use Nero V6.0.0.28 for DVD/CD burning, and it works perfectly for me.

  10. OMG! It suddenly hit me. The only other difference between the DVD that plays fine in my player and the one I made with DVD Shrink is the type of media!! The one that won't play is DVD+RW and the one that plays is DVD+R. So I just tried an experiment. I burned the first movie (that played fine before) onto a rewriteable disk and sure enough it won't play now. So the problem is with the media! What a waste of money though. If the rewritables won't play they aren't very helpful in testing. I'm going to now attempt to burn the second ISO image onto a DVD+R disk and prays it works. Man, this sucks though the whole point of the rewriteables is so I wouldn't waste money on coasters but now I am back to that.

    Wish me luck.

Your lucky you don't have my ex-girlfriends old Sony DVD player....that expensive piece of crap won't even play CD-R's.
I still think there is no need to use DVDDecrypter AND DVDShrink though....I've only had to do that with my DVD created in my Philips DVD Recorder.
