technology will always change and eliminate older technology, both standards are here for a while, but will eventually be on the wayside like vhs is now.

  4. Considering that you can now buy combo drives that will burn both formats, and both formats are highly compatible with most dvd players, I don't think it matters any more. However, I use +R.

  5. FORMAT WAR!

Earlier today, I was looking at some older Sony DVD players in the Forum's DVD Players reports. I was surprised at how many of these models have been reported as playing both +R and -R. Even Princo, in some cases.

Did you make a bad investment? No. It's getting harder and harder to find a newer DVD player that won't play both formats. And with the abundance of dual-format DVD computer burners, I doubt DVD+R is going the way of the Beta recorder.

You will find people who will question your intelligence, simply because DVD-R has a slight compatibility advantage. Keep in mind that some of these advantages were gained because players were tested with optics that were manufactured before DVD+R was available.

Then again, there are also arguments that start simply because some members are embarrased by other factors (low self-esteem, hateful relationship with a loved one, small penis, etc.) and feel the need to establish their superiority by condemning your format decision. And we know from previous threads that some start the hate simply because they are having buyer's remorse.

So don't worry. I burn DVD+RWs all day long, and I don't have compatibility issues.

EDIT: And when the new DVD format for high definition gets here, don't panic. Ever wonder why most DVD players play VCDs and all of them play CDs? Backwards compatibility is a beautiful thing.
