Hey everyone...I recently got a PS2, along with the necessary chip and accessories, to burn backup copies of any PS1 or PS2 games. However, I am having a problem. I can easily make copies of the CD-based PS games, but the process of making a copy of a DVD-based PS game is different of course. Does anyone know what program(s) I would need, where I can get them, and the instructions on using them?? Please don't send some link telling me to go to the "dvd-ripping" page. I've been there and there are several other links that I have no clue about. For instance, I'm not certain what all the different letterings are...such as SVCD, VCD, etc., etc. If you can help, please do so. Thank you very much!!

if you're not sure what VCD,SVCD, etc are ,,, you probably wont be able to rip a dvd PS2 game, stick to the lil games, k?

In theory you can backup your PSX2 games onto CDRs, BUT because the PSX2 uses DVD (holds lots of data) and CDRs hold very little data you have to cut out a lot of the game.
Normally people cut out: the opening, credits, ALL movies, etc. etc.
To me this just ruins the PSX experience. Take a look at:
http://www.megagames.com/ps2/ps2_utils.shtml
They have some backup/ripping guides. -
Yeah in order to get the game to fit on the cdr you will have to modify it. Most release groups that rip dvd games to cdr just re-encode all the movies in a lower bitrate but depending on the game sometimes thats not enough and you have to actually remove some or all of the movies. Also I believe that you have to modify some of the code because the size of the files have changed. Its not an easy thing to do.

Humm... I *think* theres some confusion here.. Being that the PS2 can "play" DVD videos, theres the assumption that the games are also on DVD disk..
AFAIK, the PS2 *games* are STILL on CD disk.

Well, it seems to me that coping a regular CD-based game is a simple task. Upload the original onto your computer, then dload the data onto a blank CD using the CDWIN program...task complete!! Now, for the DVD-based games it seems a bit more difficult. However, I would very much take your suggestions on removing the movie section, the credits, etc. etc. I just want to play the game dammit!! For instance, I want to have copies of Silent Hill 2 and Resident Evil: Veronica. However, I don't know how to go about burning a copy of them. I think the main problem I would run into is how to delete different portions of the original game. Hell, I'm not even sure what program(s) I would need to use. Furthermore, which CDs are best to use to make copies. Anyhow, if anyone can shed anymore light on this subject, do feel free to help me!! Thanks!!

surely the easiest thing to do would be to buy a dvdr writer its just a straight copy to dvdr which psx2 does play then you have whole game as on original the neo chip allows the boot up of these after all and would require hardly any computer skills at all the software that comes bundled does it for you

Yo dickhead PimpInDaHouse,
AFAIK = As Far As I Know (Means I realize I may be wrong)
Next time you want to call somebody Mr. Smartass, try doing it to there face, see how long you stay vertical cockbite.
Thanks for the update at any rate, I stand more informed, I know now that the PS2 does have some games in DVD format. I dont own a PS2 and dont plan on it, theres nothing they can produce that will make my Nvidia Geforce MX400 64Meg video card look pathetic, it would likely be the other way around.

Heh, I've seen some of the PS2 games on DVD, most of them still aren't larger then a CDR
-
OK...well, if they aren't larger than a CD-R would you just use the same program (CDWIN4) to do the coping??
