It used to be there when I had divx codec 5.1 installed. I uninstalled it and reinstalled Dr. Divx (5.11) and it no longer shows as an option when I choose Compression. How do I get VirtualDub to realize the encoding codecs are there ?

You need to install a DivX codec. If VDUB doesn't see it, then there's no encoding codec there. Some DivX codecs won't work if you remove the spyware.
