  1. It used to work (WMP6.4) but after uninstalling divx 5.1 codec and reinstalling it, it no longer works. Divx movies (encoded with 5.0 codec a while ago) play fine with Divx Player, but not WMP6.4. Error is "format not supported". Tried WMP9 and it said the same thing. Can anyone help ?

It's typically a 4cc header issue. Get Windows Media Player Classic, it much better than the original WMP 6.4 . What is technically wrong is there's no registered de-compressor for a specific 4cc header (which may be technically true, but doesn't mean much). Changing the 4cc will usually 'fix' the problem, as will registering the correct headers.

  3. i did also try WMPClassic (been using it for .rm files) to try and open the divx AVI but it states "unsupported stream" at the bottom of the player.

I stated in my VDUB problem thread that http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24305 fixed my issue about missing codecs... that fixed VDUB, but this issue remains... WMP 6.4/9/Classic won't play it. Divx player and even Irfanview will play it right now.

How do I go about registering correct headers for WMP at this point ?? Thx.
