  1. I have created a AVI file bigger then 4G on a NTFS partition with VirtualDub accidently. I can't open it with any program to cut it, I lost the originals. Any suggestion would be much appreciated.

    Thank

  3. Yeah, I'm having the same problem. When the file hits over 4 Gigs, it seems to me that nothing will open it. I can open it with VirtualDub, but anything I try to "fix" the file won't work and VirtualDub won't reorganize the file or whatever it needs to do to it. Any suggestions?

  4. I've created it with Vitual Dub 9n old AVI format for compatibility reasons, but it can't open it again. Premier seems to open it, but clicking anywhere on it shuts down Premiere.

I've tried lots of advanced opening options of Virtual Dub, nothing seems to work.

I've done work on 4gig files - in VD. It takes some time to load in (about 1 or 2 min.)
and then you're set. I use VD's filters and then frameserve to tmpg. I haven't had
any problems. Hay, if you're cutting merging, why don't you do it in tmpg instead,
while frameserving from VD? If cutting and other things don't work right in VD, that is.

  6. Fat32 has a limit that no file can be greter than 4gb (as and aside the AVI format states that files can not be larger than 2GB, but most programs will open them).

You need to capture to segmented AVI. This will create several small AVIs, if you open the first one in VDub the rest load automatically and/or you can frameserve w/ AVISynth to TMPGenc or CCE.

AVI_IO also has this feature. SOME people report dropping less frames using AVI_IO then VDub.

  7. Vejita, if you read the first message you see I have used a NTFS partition. If should have used a FAT32, because VD then errors out and I would have noticed. I have created the >4G file out of segmented AVI's in AVI_IO as you descibe. I didn't cut the AVI enough in VD and went over 4G when saving. While saving VD doesn't error out.

vhelp, VD won't load the AVI at all, it errors out, the filesize is 4.308.998.144 bytes. I'm not familiar with the frameserver, should it be turned on when loading >4G file? I make wmv files with the MS Encoder instead of mpg's with tmpg.
