Sorry for repeating this thread but it seems that NO ONE can give a satisfactory answer or even give a viable suggestion or solution.
I have seen this problem by many people in the polls but finally there wasn’t anyone to really help them. Well here it is:
I have ripped an NTSC DVD in my HDD in movie only mode (I own the dvd so cut the crap about illegal and sh…t !!
I used Vobedit to demux to m2v and ac3 files. I didn’t keep any subtitles because the DVD is Region 1 and the included subs (English, French) are no use for me. Anyway …..
I downloaded subtitles for my language in .srt format. I used SRT2SUP to make the conversion, fix the colour and font and also correct the timing. Finally I used Ifoedit (both 0.95 and 0.96) to author the DVD with the new subtitles. I import the m2v, the ac3, the sup and the celltimes.txt file, which I took with the Ifoupdate method mentioned in the forums. I even tried without any celltime.txt import.
After finishing the authoring I test the movie in my PC using PowerDVD. The subs were green so I change the hex values according to SRT2SUP IFO settings. Everything worked ok including the chapter change. I finally burned the DVD using DVD-Video setting in Nero. I first burn on a Verbatim (MCC) DVD-RW. It worked OK, subtitles are in the right colour and position and the timing is perfect in my standalone. BUT ………………… When I try to change chapter, forward or backward the movie plays for about 5 seconds and it freezes!!! I noticed that when the movie originally start, the time counter on my standalone stays at 6 seconds and does not proceed but the movie is playing normally (if I don’t change chapter or forward-backward). If I change chapter the time change into the relevant chapter time but again after 5 seconds the movie freezes
I’ve been on this problem for almost a week now, I followed lot of “solutions” found in the forum but yet the problem exists. I burned into DVD-R, DVD+R (several brands like TDK, Verbatim-MCC, Ritek, etc.) so is not a media problem and don’t tell me about it!
I even tried the IFOupdate solutions but still nothing. But maybe I made some mistakes in the procedure so I will appreciate if someone can write down the procedure he used and worked.
After lot of nerve brake I read (by 2COOL) that ifoedit has problems authoring with NTSC DVDs. Is this the REAL PROBLEM? And if so can you AT LAST tell me (not suggest) an authoring software that: 1) accepts NTSC movies, 2) import separate streams like m2v, ac3 and sup(or any other subtitle formats), 3) author working DVD’s WITHOUT THE FREEZING PROBLEM ?!!
Sorry for my tense post but it really disturb me to manage to solve the difficult problem with subtitles (colour, position, synch etc) and having problem with dvd playback and compatibility.
Thanking you all for your patience reading my post and in advance for your answers.

I see a bunch of stuff you've tried, but I have no idea what it is yer attempting to accomplish as your final result. If all u wanna do is copy the friggin DVD, use DVD Shrink. Edit out the stuff u don't want, burn it, and be done with it. Sheeesh.
Why make a simple task so unbelievably difficult? If you can't get it to work...stop trying it. Use what is simple, free, and effective. -
Outside of IFOEdit there are few inexpensive DVD authoring programs that can take seperate sub files.
The only solution I can think of is to re-encode the original DVD (which is probably something you have to do anyways since most seem to be dual layer DVD discs now-a-days) and when you do the re-encode you can use an AviSynth AVS script (VobSub for instance) to read the subtitles INTO or ON TOP OF the video. This will mean that the subs are now ENCODED on the video and will not be selectable but who cares if you NEED the subs and at least this way you can use just about any DVD authoring software since in the end you only have 1 video and 1 audio stream (again if you want multiple audio streams you will need a very expensive DVD authoring tool).

Can you please give me some more details for the Vobsub solution you sujest and how can i import srt subtitles in the video and synch them ?
Bodene: I'm doing all this (u didn't pay attention) because i want to add some subtitles to my movie. The movie has only english and french subs and i wanna add greek subtitles because the corresponding region 2 dvd which includes greek subs is far away from release. I do not just want to make a copy of the movie. jeessss.
All i'm asking is another authoring software that takes elementary streams (m2v, ac3, sup, sub etc) and re-author without having problem with NTSC movies as IFOedit has.
If not i'm looking for a solution WITH the Ifoedit.
Thanking you both for your reply. -
Well when I hard encoded subs into the video in the past I had always first "ripped" the subs with VobSub. So like I said I don't know much about all the different sub formats and which formats are compatable with VobSub etc.
But here is how I did it.
Rip the DVD using FILE MODE and just rip the MAIN MOVIE. Run the VOB files through DVD2AVI to demux your audio and get your D2V project file. DVD2AVI version 1.76 seems to be the version that works best although there are newer versions.
Then you need to use AviSynth AVS scripting. Do something like this:
Code:LoadPlugin("MPEG2DEC3.DLL") LoadPlugin("VSFILTER.DLL") mpeg2source("D:\DVD\VIDEO_TS\FILENAME.D2V") VobSub("D:\DVD\VIDEO_TS\SUBS\FILENAME.SUB")
This of course means you have to re-encode the original DVD which might not be ideal but since most DVD movies are dual layer anyway then it's not that big of a deal. Quality will be better than a transcoder (such as DVD2ONE or DVDShrink). It will take a lot longer but quality should be excellent if you do your encoding properly and of course now the subtitles are burned into the video so you can use just about any DVD authoring software since you know should only have a VIDEO and an AUDIO file. No more subtitle file. As I said very few DVD authoring software packages can handle seperate subs unless you want to blow an arm & a leg.

Before i ve found this post
i thougt i was the only one with this weird ntsc problem.
FastF and FastRew running crazy en chapter freeze problems.
I also tought this is an ifoedit with ntsc
but two weeks ago i ve found THE SAME problem with a PAL movie.
I ve searched all forums but i ve found no answers yet.
The problem is ifoedit author (i think) but there is NO alternative program
that can do multiple ac3 + (divx) suptitles.
Perhaps someone has a solution to this
