    Not on the hardware, but if I have a dvd I purchased, and I want to make a copy of it, is it possible to change the region of the dvd files before writing it to a new dvd-r ? I would rather not go through the whole process of extracting the movie from the vob files and reencoding it, if possible.

    Several of the programs used to backup DVD's can make them region free. DVDshrink comes to mind. Try it with AutoshrinkISO, for an easy conversion.
