  1. Why is it that i can't import VOB Files directly from a DVD that was burned with a Cyberhome 1500 DVD Recorder??? I can use work arounds like ripping it to my hard drive with DVD Decrypter in IFO mode, then import the ripped M2V and AC3 file into TMPGEnc DVD Author.

    I guess my question is:
What could be causing TMPGEnc DVD Author to not read the discs?

I have made the disc compatible, tried several brands of DVD+R/RW discs, but still get the same results. It is not a killer i guess, but it is driving me nutz!

  2. Hi,
I take vts files in with DVD Author and also take the whole video in.

I take them off a philips dvdr 70 and they work great.

  3. You can't directly import DVDs recorded on a standalone DVD recorder directly into a DVD authoring program because the file structure created by a DVD-recorder disc differs from the file structure created with a typical DVD authoring program.
DVDs recorded on a standalone DVD recorder are slightly non-standard. Consequently you must rip them into elementary streams and import them into your DVD authoring program and re-author the DVD.
Here's a link to a discussion on how to read and edit the VRO files from a disc made by a DVD recorder:

Reportedly several programs including Womble MPEG VCR ($99 at www.womble.com) will let you read and manipulate the VRO files created by DVD recorders. So the key would seem to be to read the VRO file, edit it, then export it as a VOB file, and author the DVD from there.

  4. As I said, I have a Philips DVDR standalone which I record from tv with. I can take these files into TMPGenc DVD Author and edit them very easily. You unfortunately do not get any sound during editing but the output has sound and is perfect. I can edit, cut out adverts and make my own menus. There is a free trial on this programme and its worth a try. I am not at all disappointed other than that it does not play AC3 audio during editing (which is what the Philips uses). I have even transferred my sons nativity play at school to dvd by linking the analogue camcorder to the philips and taking the resulting disks to my pc and using dvd author to edit. It may be that your standalone does not do the same type of file system but I can confirm that the philips can be read in DVD Author.

    Hope this helps

  5. I can confirm as well that it does work with Tmpgenc DVD Author. I record off of the Sansui DVD Recorder. It does suck that you can't hear the audio though.

I hate to change the subject a little but have you checked all the dvdr's you recorded with the Sansui? Have they ALL worked with Tmpegenc DVD Author?

I have burned 47 Discs with the Sansui and I've had 2 coasters and 10 that have not been recognized with Tmpegenc DVD Author.
However, the 10 discs are fine cause they play on all my DVD players and they are recognized by Adobe Encore (with sound) on the computer.

I'm just getting into Encore it's a bit buggy though. I will get into it some more when I get time. I only use it now to see if it accepts certain files.

I can use the VOBs or VROs from the Panasonic E80 in Womble Mpeg Video Wizard 2003, edit out the adverts, save as the same DVD format with AC-3 sound, then author the DVD with TMPGEnc DVD Author. Nothing simpler. Video Wizard also lets me cut scenes and make VCD, SVCD and DVD Mpegs. Works very well...

  9. Except for me making a few mistakes when I first got my Sansui all my recordings have worked fine. I'm using Memorex DVD-RW in the Sansui.

Only one point with Womble...it can't handle more than one program on a DVD-RAM (and probably DVD-+RW) as it sees only the first program on the disc. I've also found that it unsyncs the audio and video on multiprogram DVD-RAM discs. I get no such problems when I edit the VOBs on a DVD-R or DVD-ROM or a single program on a DVD-RAM. Looks like the program still needs some work...
