Hi all,
I've got DV AVI captured using Premiere 6.0 from my camcorder.
I used VirtualDub to extract the audio into a WAV file @ 48000Hz.
I then used ffmpeg (latest version) and the GUI (nice one Baldrick - much easier than Be Sweet and all it's dll's) to convert to 192kbps AC3.
The AC3 file plays just fine in Windows Media Player. AVICodec states I have the following AC3 codec installed:
"0x2000;AC-3 ACM Decompressor;0.4 .0;AC3ACM"
However, when I use it as the audio in TMPGEnc DVD Author, when viewing / playing the frames there is no audio. The WAV file works OK.
I tried the same AC3 file with WinDVD Platinum 5 and still no audio.
I burnt the DVD (to DVD-RW) anyway, just in case, and the audio was perfect and in sync. Weird.
Anyone know why the lack of audio on the TMPGEnc DVD Author and WinDVD occurred?
If you need any more info, let me know and I'll provide it.
Cheers.

I believe TMPEnc DVD Author just allows it to "pass thru" it does not actually support or encode it, thus it will not play as you view the frames.
Hope this helps -

a related question...
i try to compile 2 short DVDs into one dvdr in TMPGEnc DVD Author to create menus/chapter points. when i load up the first movie TDA tells me there is no audio. there clearly is audio on the DVD! i load up the 2nd movie and everything is fine.
i have not actually created an output from TDA cuz i'm afraid i won't get audio with my first movie. maybe after reading this i will go ahead and run the movies thru TDA and burn to rw.
anyone else have this problem? thanks for this post. -

Turtle49 and Lordsmurf - Thanks for the prompt responses. Much appreciated.
If it's just a "feature" of TDA, then so be it - A bit of a pain if you're trying to set chapters by sound rather than sight, but I guess that can be done using the WAV and then put the AC3 file in as the audio source later.
Any idea why WinDVD does it? I'd be surprised if it's the same...There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.
