I have an ATI 7500-AIW card, using MM 8.5 and I am having a capture problem. I have setup a "default" capture setting within the TV / Setup options. The selected setting uses MPG, SOAP settings, 7mb bitrate (I know, a bit high). At these settings a 2-hour recording takes about 5.5gig of disk space.

When I open the TV and press RECORD, it always uses these settings. However, when I open the TV-Guide program that comes with ATI, and select a program and select RECORD, and verify it will use the DEFAULT record setting, it records in some other setting. It is still MPG but for the same 2-hour it will be lesser quality and take only about 1.3gig of disk space. This should be using the same DEFAULT that is select when i view from TV / OPTIONS / RECORDER.

Any suggestions as to why this is occurring and how to correct it will be appreciated.

Either it's a bug or not designed for normal humans.
When you schedule a recording from the Guide plus,
you have to go back later to setup -> schedule and edit
the individual capture setting to make sure it's as intended.

It is one of the most stupid things about ATI software.
Along with having 30 or 40 setups and only being able to
    select 1 of 4

Well, the Guide-Plus software is the same as what came with the card, back in January. I have upgraded the MMC from 7.x to 8.5. Strange thing is, this used to work, it used to record in the settings that I had set as default. I guess that something installed afterwards f'ed up the MMC scheduler. I havent tried re-installing yet, saving that for last option.

    I will try the following:
    - setup
    -> schedule
--> and edit the individual capture setting

would this be the SETUP from within the TV option? or is this a setup from within the Guide-Plus?

Did you also update Windows (DirectX9 and WMV9) as well as the other ATi drivers, not just MMC ?

    use TV Guide+'s update wizard.

I have similar problem with TV Guide+ every time I upgrade my catalyst drivers, (I still keep MMC 7 though - thats probably the reason) and TV Guide+ always stops functioning (usually the option to choose one of its 3 default or the 4th "custom" recording format is gone, and it records everything in DVD-High option by itself - if it still works that is ).
What I do is I uninstall TV Guide+, reboot (important step!), then install fresh new TV Guide+ from original drivers disc (reinstall option found in install/uninstall programs will NOT help you), then I run it (setting up all needed crap), then I reboot again and run TV Guide+'s Update wizard. It downloads newer version, installs it and then you gotta reboot again. After restart run it, set up channels etc stuff (again) and it should work.

    Maybe this helps?
