  1. I finallt decided to try backing-up a dvd by using 2 disks without re-compression.

    Has anyone else encountered this?

I used DVDFab as the application to back up Lord of the Rings: 2Towers. It worked ok, except that on the 2nd disk, if I fast-forward and then try to resume play, the playback will return to the last chapter point instead of simply beginning.

I used dvdfab because of the "cost" of course....especially considering how expensive DVDXCopy is comparitively, and that it seems to get a lot of negative feedback in these forums.

Is there a better cost-effective program for 1:1 copy/backup then DVDFab?

  2. Howdy,

I've used DVDFab in the past and will probably again some day, but for now I'm using DVDStripper (DS) and Menuedit for most of my "complete" backups. The thing I couldn't do with DVDFab--haven't tried the latest commercial versions, so I don't know if the feature has been added--was specify which pieces went where. Plus, I wanted the menu on both discs on certain titles.

Anyway, with DS (+Ifoedit +DVD Decryptor) and Menuedit I get ride of all the true junk (logos, warnings, sneek peak trailers, etc) and split the rest across 2 discs. Then I modify the menu for each disc by removing "clickable" buttons to removed or no longer valid items like scene selections, bonus features, etc.

A little more work, but I like being able to control how the back up is made.

    HTH,
