can anyone explain in layman's terms the easiest way to backup the movie only as well as the thx intro (if included on the original dvd)? i've read a couple other posts and found them confusing. i'm sure it's not that complicated. hoping someone can break it down for me step by step. i'm open to using any software and tools. thanks.
and if you're really skilled, can you show me how to add an intro to any backup dvd, regardless if it's on the original or not?

- Rip with DVD decrypter to HDD
- Import DVD the folder in TMPEGEnc DVD Author
- Edit, cut away anything you don't want
(- Add any VOB/MPEG/MV2 you want for extra intro or what ever. Not sure it works in combination of importing a DVD folder, but I don't see why it wouldnt work. At least not as a different track. Might get a aspect ratio problem if sources hv different aspect ratios..) -
Welcome to the forums, bogeyjay.
Simply use DVD Shrink "Re-author" mode.
1) Open "DVDShrink v3.0b5" (window #1).
2) Use "Open disk" and select the drive containing the original DVD.
3) After the quick analysis is done, browse the "Menus", "Movie" and "Extras" folders to find the "THX" and movie titles.
4) Click on "Re-author"; this will open a new and empty window (window #2).
5) Drag the "THX" and movie titles from window #1 to the "New DVD" pane in window #2.
They will play sequentially in the order in which they are displayed in the "New DVD" pane, so make sure that's the order you want.
6) Make your selection of audio/subpicture streams, compression for each title.
7) Backup!
If the "THX" intro is part of a larger title, simply drag the whole title to the "New DVD" pane, and then use "Start/end" to crop it.
If you're not familiar with DVD Shrink, I'd suggest you view the guides at:

A little off topic, but is there any way to do this if 1) you want to add in the THX intro and 2) you want to keep an original working menu?

Not with DVD Shrink, Jimmykicker.
