Hi - I know TMPGENC erroes are a point of frustration for users on this site so I've been sure to have a really good look around these forums for an answer to this and found nothing that works. Tried what seems to be the common fixes of changing priorities and making sure TMPGs temp file has plenty of disk space, to no avail

Heres a breakdown of what I'm doing/whats playing up - I'm backing up my DVD's to CVD format - I USED to do this all the time with no errors. somethings changed obviously in a TMPG update or something similar

-Rip DVD to HDD using smartripper - works fine
-Frameserve usuing dvd2avi - seems to work fine
-Attempt to convert using TMPGENC - randomly get an error

'Result: Read error occurred at address 000B26F0 of module 'TMPGEnc.exe' with 04FFBB4C'

This could happen at any point of the conversion - after 10 minutes, or 2 hours. And it never happens at the same point of the conversion twice - same *.dv2 files, different result.

    Ay ideas/pointers appreciated. Thanks

The best version of DVD2AVI is 1.76

If you aren't using that version give it a try. Also for proper use with TMPGEnc it is best to use RGB color space and PC SCALE. Although that probably has nothing to do with the error I don't think too many people realize that.

If the problem isn't your version of DVD2AVI then I'm sorry but I don't know how to help.

I've been "lucky" I guess as I've never had issues with using TMPGEnc.

Maybe try an AviSynth AVS script to read the D2V into TMPGEnc.

All you need is something like this:

    Code:
    LoadPlugin("mpeg2dec3.dll")
    mpeg2source("D:\MOVIE\VIDEO_TS\movie.d2v")
Give it a try and see what happens but it sounds like maybe your ENVIRONMENTAL settings are off in TMPGEnc although how to fix that is rather a trick if you ask me.

No luck there either, but thanks again mate.

Funny enough, I've got a REALLY old version of TMPGenc that works perfectly - version 12a - prior to MPEG2 becoming a time limited feature - and it works fine. The finished quality seems a bit rough though, compared to the newer versions.
