  1. Hey there everyone. My buddy recently upgraded his old computer to Windows 2000.

It's a Compaq 7360 with 64mb ram and 500mhz cpu speed. Everything installed and upgraded fine except for a few things.

His pictures he saved from the old 98 turn up blurry. Its because he can only choose 16bit colors from the vid card settings. He used to be able to choose 32 in 98. Also he doesn't have any sound card installed......atleast 2000 is saying he doesn't.

He can't see the name of a sound card or vid card under Device Manager either.

What do you think the problem is? Driver issue? There is no driver for video on the Compaq website. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. Thanks for all the help.

If you want to see his total system specs, they are here:

Does the Compaq site list the card in the machine? Total machine specs? That ones obsolete, but might still be posted in "Obsolete" or something.

If it does you might be able to get them from driverworld.com .

You definitely don't have the vid drivers installed, or the sound card, from the "sound" of it.

Does he have the original Install disk? Probably a long shot that W2k drivers would be on it, but what the heck, look for them.

    Hatz,

Clicked on your link. You have a Trident vid chip, and an Ensoniq audio chip. Ensoniq is now a part of Creative, you should be able to get drivers there.

Trident drivers I have back to 1 MB vid cards. If you can't get them elsewhere, read the chip, I may have the ones you need and might be able to mail them, if they're less than 10 MB.

    Cheers,

    George

  4. Wow thanks gmatov. I will take a look at it tomorrow. Since its at his house. I had a feeling these drivers might be hard to find. I'll have a look at it tomorrow and report my findings.

I thank you for the help. Much appreciated.
