DVd writers are getting very cheap, although i dunno much about dvd writer. i think i should wait for sometime.
is this the to buy a dvd writer.

I agree with best time is when you need it. Another year they will be giving them away too. Just like every think you buy in electronics. The price falls fast afer you buy one, which reminds me of work, everybody gets a pay raise when you quit.

If you mean a DVD writer (for a PC), I'm not sure. If you mean a stand alone *recorder*, I'd wait til January. I've been watching the prices on the Panasonic E-80 go up and down since November. Right now they've gone back up a few $$. Probably due to Christmas. January is usually the big month when the electronics manufacturers introduce new lines .You'll see stores reduce prices due to new models coming out and to clear inventory.

When did the current Panasonic models come out?

Are we due for new models in 2004? I don't want to buy one in January and see new models sortly afterwards.

I shouldn't worry about buying a 2003 model if a 2004 model is just coming out, if you delay you'll kick yourself in 6 months time when the 2004 model is 1/2 price. Then you'll get near Xmas again and have the same feelings you're having now!

From what I read the Pana's are the nuts - buy it!!!!

I'm not sure about what's coming out in January to be honest. There are some new recorders that are hitting Japan this month and I haven't been able to see when they're due in the U.S. You may want to search the net for info on the CES (Consumer Electronics show) show in Vegas this January. That's when all the goodies come out and get previewed.

The E-80 has been out since April/May 2003, I believe the Pioneer 510 came out this November.

I was about to buy one, but decided to wait for the newer model.
I am very curious how the second generation Sony recorder will come out.

Anyone have any ideas when they will bring out the newer model?
