dvd-r playback niggly problem

hi ppl. i recently purchasd a ronin p807 stand alone dvd player and a pioneer a06 dvd burner. i`ve sussed the extracting, converting and encoding bits after a few attempts. my problem is that when i play my dvd-r on my ronin player i get picture pauses but the sound plays fine. the disks play fine on my dvd writer and on a p&b stand alone player. my friend gave me a ritek dvd-r to try and i still get the same problem. the ronin does support dvd-r (which is why i bought it). probably the only thing i havn`t tried is burning at 1x or try a dvd+r. the picture pauses usually only happen when there is little movement on screen. any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. thx
