Copying a copied DVD?

Hi guys,

A couple of questions please

Can I possibly make another copy of an already copied DVD+R movie?

Also,
I am in the US and using a DVD burner that was bought in the US. will the copied and authored DVD+R's be playable in asian countried where the region code and TV format is different from the US? eg NTSC vs PAL.

To make a copy of a copied movie simply rip to your hard drive and reburn (The copied disc has already been shrunk to fit on a DVD+R and so no processing is necessary). Either that or just do a disc to disc copy using your favorite burning software.

The PAL Vs NTSC debate will depend on the DVD players of the purchasers of your illigitimate DVDs - most DVD players play both. When the copied DVD+R was encoded there is a fair chance that it will be region free so that won't be an issue.

Even easier than that is, if you have a dvd drive and a dvd burner you can just copy it by using any program(ezcd, nero) and selecting copy.

I hope that movie is of your holiday or something similar - because if you copy a copy, you're breaking the law as much as the person who made the copy in the first place.

Maybe they made the copy of their own film which is now so scratched that they can't copy it any more.

C'mon. I get yelled at all the time for supposedly presuming guilt when people talk about using $30,000 programs that they "found" laying around their apartment. So no picking on people unless they literally say they're renting something and pirating it, ok?

I asked this because I am originally from Asia and planning to move back home soon so I just want to make sure that all the movies I BACKED UP will work on DVD players back home. And because I know for sure that the original DVDs that I purchased here would not work. Oh, and no Iam not selling any illegal DVDs if that's what you are thinking. I dont have that much time to do business like that. I can show my passport for verification

I dont get what you are saying here I did back up the DVDs myself and only of what I own. I am asking questions that I am curious to know and explore since I am new to this DVD burning stuff. I did not mean to insult anyone's intelligence here and I apologise if I did.

Hi FOO.
I tried backing up one from a copy using DVD X Copy Express. But the program does not seem to recoznize the disc that I put in. So I think maybe the DVD X Copy will not read DVDs that are not original? Are there any other software that will do that?

The best way is to drag&drop the folders on the DVD to My Documents then burn,some software won't allow DVD->DVD copy.

BTW..all PAL DVD players support NTSC DVD but your PAL TV may have a problem.

What you do is forget that it is a DVD. The copy is now just a data disk
and do a raw disk copy with whatever burning software you have.

Being somewhat new to the DVD burner world and having learned a LOT from here, I always get curious when comments like this come up.

Is it safe to say then that the naysayers NEVER in their life copied a single music cd from a friend, loved one, co-worker, etc. ?? The price points on both are floating around the same dollar amounts, so no arguements about how much $$ is being "stolen".

I'd bet we are ALL guilty at one time or another of burning a few cd's for friends or accepting them from friends.

now if u excuse me, I have to make a back up of my home movie that I Pressed-double layered- onto the disc and encrypted it, so now I need to decrypt it , shrink it and burn a few copies for myself just in case my origonal home-made movie gets damaged.

Like everyone else said, you should be able to just use something like DVD Decrypter mode>ISO>read to write the ISO to your HD, then use DVD Decrypter mode>ISO>write to burn the disk.

Although I have read that some people report problems copying a copy when they burned originally with recordnowmax and DVD X Copy. I don't know what that's all about as I only burn with Decrypter and I make copies of copies all the time. I personally think it's a process problem but I could be wrong...it has happened before.

And before some folks around here try to make "the pirate walk the plank" I do original DVD work and I keep a copy of every DVD I make so if they break or damage theirs I can always make them another copy.

Make sure your burner can read DVD+R! Though you can burn a DVD+R to a DVD burner ( such as Pioneer 106D ) the Pioneer cannot read back DVD+R. I learned this the hard way. If you want to make copies in the future burn to DVD-R.

The 106 I use at work reads +R just fine.

Virtually ALL DVD devices made in the past 2 years read +R just fine.

I have never used DVDXCrappy but have been told that it adds in (manual/auto?) it's own form of copy protection that affects certain copying software.

:EDIT:, lol I must remember to read the thread twice before posting , but it was very suspicious to begin with

you can bypass the protection of DVDXCopy very easily irvie even before you burn . IIRC, don't put a blank in the drive and whne DVDXcopy asks for the blank to be inserted just use CTRL+ALT+DEL and close DVDXcopy. Use Ifoedit and remove the DVDXcopy warning VOB ID and delete the archive.txt file and burn it with any software you want

DVDXcopy should then allow you to backup the backup but why use it anyway as mentioned above there are other methods anyway

Getting back to the subject at hand, now that you say you are from asia and moving back, just do a disc to disc copy or rip to your hard drive and burn. The PAL/NTSC debate will depend on your settop box back home and if your original copying software was any good it would have made your copy region free.
