  1. Hi,

I'm trying to baack up "Finding Nemo". I'd like to make a backup that still has the menus. I use DVDshrink and copytoDVD. Everytime I try it the menus are there but do not function. I've tried in 3 different players and none seem to work. You have to use the DVD players Navigator. This happens with all my movies I backup. I use DVDshrink 3.0 Beta 5

    Thanks

  2. If you are using re-author mode in DVDShrink, it does not bring over functional menus. You will have to keep everything and reduce what you do not want to stills, or use one of the GUIDES on this site to be able to keep a fully functioning menu using DVDShrink.

You didn't say what method you were using, so I took a guess at why the menus were not working. My guess was based on one of the common questions I see on the forums.

  3. I've tried 2 methods with DVDshrink

    1st
    Compress all extras to still
Delete all audio/subtitle tracks expect ENGLISH
Compress Movie to fit on 1 DVD+R disc
    Leave menus untouched.

Result = Menus are there with perfect video/audio but they don't work. Meaning when I push: UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT on the remote control it doesn't do anything. I can't navigate in the menus although I didn't do ANYTHING to them. The only way to get it to play the movie is press play repeatedly on the remote while the disc is loading when inserted in the DVD player. This has the same result in 3 types of stand alone players. SONY, PIONEER, and apex (I think) so it can't be the players. There all under a year old so I don't think they're the problem.

2nd Click re-author in DVDshrink and nothing but the movie works. But that doesn't work. Like you said andkiich

Thanks for the help... Any other suggestions. Thanx

    *EDIT*

    I just thought of this:
Finding Nemo for example has 3 audio tracks: English, French, Spanish and 3 subtitle tracks. If I "Uncheck" those audio and subtitles will that cause the problems with the menus not working? Leaving only the english. Just a thought.

Your menus may be working and you don't know it.
The buttons and highlights for the menus are in the subtitles
that you erased Try navigating blind.
start the movie , hit a remote button to move , and hit enter.

    Thanx FOO
You're right. It was there the whole time. All my menus worked but I was driving blind so to speak and didn't know it. I can't believe that it was in the Subtitles. It's always something simple. Every single movie I backed up I deleted the subtitles NO MORE!!! It works PERFECTLY know!!! Thanks or the help!

  6. I'm trying to backup just the menu & movie. If I reauthor with just those two main folders, I can keep everything @ 100%. I've been hunting for the guide andkiich mentioned on how to make the menu work w/ DVDShrink but can't find it. Is it still available?

    HELP...!!

    "FINDING NEMO"

I use a similar methods like 808smokey with DVDShrink 3.0b5.

I CANNOT get the Movie to start at the MAIN MENU...the movie goes to the Extra files first (Commerical, etc..) I been using IfoEdit v0.95 everytime no problem but this movie "FINDING NEMO" I edited with the 18. Pre command of (Jump_TT) Jump to Title Nr. 1, from the VIDEO_TS First Play PGC... still it came the Commerical first.

Can anybody tell which file I should edit to get to the movie directly to the MAIN MENU..?

    THANKS!

    noki,

    Or anybody...Help....

    Hello...

"FINDING NEMO" the full screen version disc
I'm Only interested in the MENU and the MOVIE with subtitles-closed caption, audios..nothing else.

After several hours I ripped as your instruction. The finish result: My standalone (Sanyo DWM-370) will not start play at the MENU...it has black screen..and I press and repress play in order to play the movie but will not go the the MENU & No MENU at all, the standalone player will freeze when press on Menu button... (the picture are good though is only 92% without loss of movie quality much). Another standalone Mintek brand does not play the backup disc at all!!

Here's what I done in "FINDING NEMO" full screen:

    1. DVDDecrypter 3.170 all the files of the Movie.
    2. DVDShrink 3.0b5...shrink only the VTS_01.ifo (which is the menu with the main movie)
    3. DVDFab 0.1.71, Fab into the shrunk folder where the movie is ripped to get the missing VIDEO_TS.IFO.
    4. Rename folder to VIDEO_TS and created an empty folder of AUDIO_TS
    5. Burn with RecordNow Dx version 4.60

What else's am I missing here....?????

    Any help would be appreciated!!

    Thanks.

everything you did looked good. you did not list what you deleted (audio and/or subs) but i'll assume you did it correctly. as per my method the movie starts first...the menu has to be selected by your remote control. only difference for me is that i use copytodvd or nero to burn. i have used my method countless times without fail. just did Diana Krall - Live in Paris last night; worked as expected. if i have time i will do finding nemo and see what the problem might be.

Ok..here's another way I tried with no avail.
    TOOL: IfoEdit

From another forum suggests before burning.

    - Run IfoEdit
    - Open VIDEO_TS.IFO
    PreCommand...(JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 1, Title(ttn): 1, root-menu

Still not working... Here's the Problem:
Playing On PC with PowerDVD = the Menu will start fine. The Play & Introduction link button on the screen will freeze the PC when pressed. Scene selection have no audios, other buttons on the menu ok but I understand won't link further due to unwanted special features.
Playing On standalone Sanyo = will play start movie after several press & repress Play button on remote control (still no Menu)
Playing On standalone Mintek = can't play at all..can't navigate.

BTW..I only want the MENU & MOVIE only so everything is there no audio/subtitle deleted & Extra at 1MB. (This total only 4368MB..I re-ripped and it able to fit on a full blank disc 100% quality for Menu & Movie only)

I just wonder is there a way I can edit to where play the Menu & then the button for playing the movie is linkable from the Menu screen. (I haven't tried MenuEdit)

I think Disney's Video have a better protection or something...Let me know if you find anything else on.

  14. Even with DVDShrink v3.1.3, I'm still having problems with backing up Nemo

Got a different error this time:

"Overlapping I/O" ( or something like that )

Tried it twice ... got the same error.

I just don't understand why you guys insist on having a menu.

If you would simply get the movie , everything would be easy.

I found DVD-Replica v2.4 do the job while still maintain the Menu simple to use.

Note: I found DVDshrink couldnt preview VIDEO_TS.IFO after DVD-Replica back up the file & cost approx. $17.95 I think its worth after with the features.

  19. I used DVD SHrink to rip the movie and then Clone dvd to burn it and it maintained the working menus.

    @ emperor5..

FYI...DVDClone DID NOT WORK on this movie "FINDING NEMO"... I just tried and waste another DVD disc! So nothing will work except for DVD-Replica v2.4. We all know Disney's videos are one of toughest to make a backup. (I want to maintain the menu starts at the beginning and the movie only to preserve as much quality discard the rest). I think DVDClone one of the suxkies, the burning takes longer than any others.

Let me know how you did it we'll go make money.

So far no experts can respond with an answer on this practicular movie title.

  21. Well,I said I used CloneDVD not DVDclone.I have full menu interactivity and no noticable video degredation.

    @ emperor5..

Again...There's NO Way you can get CloneDVD (DVDclone or whatever...) you cannot get this movie to unnoticeable unless you discard a lot of the titles and keep just the Main Movie & menu but then your IFOs messed up and wont navigate correct and freeze up your standalone or PC when request play if you only want this two titles. This mean you almost filled up the blank 4.7G (4.38G) public disc to get the perfect 1:1 (but only the Movie & menu). I don't know if you realized this Movie has a high VIVID colors and only if you compressed no more than 10% to get unnoticeable, but then you will not able to get the rest of the extras, special features..etc., If you included everything there's no way you can get this movie without any degeneration.

This project I'm working on this particular movie took me about a week so far..I already tried many methods to keep everything on one disc but then the quality if pretty poor..and Noticeable. This is why I just want to keep the Main & the Main Movie...which none program I found to work besides DVD-Replica v2.4. But then it has a downside, after DVD-Replica backup, I couldnt get DVDShrink to preview from the VIDEO_TS.IFO

    Well..thanks for your input.

  26. I seem to have taken the path less followed here, and it's my first post too...

Finding Nemo is a pain in the arse becuase if you're a 1:1 nut like I'm becoming, you have all these embedded VOB's you want - but it makes the movie too big for one disc if you hate quality compromise.

I tried ifoedit, and it ran up against Nero (Nero is good burner software, but it can't edit dvd's for shit, imo). Other software players like powerdvd hated the result with fixes. I tried wading through a large thread on here about how to resolve Nero not wanting to burn, and when the Nero advocate blamed Nero, I gave up.

I purchased CloneDVD, not the sheeps head, the other one. It is an amazing splitter, everything you could ask for, but it can't burn for shit (I even had one of the most recommended drive manufactiurers: LG). They give you some bullshit about technical support, but I live in Canada, and these guys live in germany, so realistically, is this an option? As well, it also produces stupid iso images which are way too big. But in terms of VOB's/IFO's on your hard drive, beautiful - all extras and embedded features are present using PowerDVD and NeroVision.

So I split to the hard drive, take the first disk from the split, and Nero likes it! The rest is familiar territory. If Nero likes it, it shouldl burn and read on my standalone, no question. I will post confirmation tommorow, it's 1:00 am.

    peace

  27. Well, not an unqualified success...

It plays on my PC, but on my standalone, it jumps through the movie in 10 minute(?) segments. Maybe by chapter?

Also, I have to hit root menu on the 2nd disc for the movie to play when it's on my PC.

OTOH All features are present and correct.

I've burned other DVD's and had them play on the standalone, so I don't think it's a hardware issue...

Comments? insight? I'm all ears (or rather, eyes).

  28. Okay, sussed it out.

Long story short, I used Nero Recode instead of Nero Burning Rom the first time. I am using Nero 6 ultra (ie latest version).

Using Nero Burning Rom, I started a DVD_Video compilation and dragged the video files into the VIDEO_TS folder. Selected burn, burned, ran on the standalone flawlessly.

I had tried the DVD-UDF compilation method mentioned elsewhere, but the software warned that this would not play on a standalone, and I should use DVD-Video comp. instead for standalones, as I was adding video files. So I believed them.

    So, my cookbook:

    1) rip files to hard drive (I used AnyDVD/windows explorer copy/paste to do this, but whatever works for you)

    2) using non-sheepshead CloneDVD, direct it to open the VIDEO_TS folder you ripped to, specify copying to a folder, and choose disc # 1. Press copy now.

    3) When it's done, start up Nero Burning Rom, specify DVD_Video project, click New, drag all files from the VIDEO_TS folder in the directory CloneDVD copied to (if you chose directory X, it would be X\CopiedDVDMovieFiles\VIDEO_TS) to the VIDEO_TS folder in the compilation. Chose image recorder or your burner, (make sure disc is inserted and recognized if you chose burner by clicking disc properties and hitting refresh until you see the empty disc), and click Burn. I also chose to verify contents after the burn (optional).

    4) Insert disc into standalone player, do victory jig.

    6) close Nero.

    7) using non-sheepshead CloneDVD, direct it to open the VIDEO_TS folder you ripped to, specify copying to a folder, and choose disc # 2. Press copy now. Make sure your folder has nothing in it. If you like, you can just clear out your old folder and re-use it.

    8) When it's done, start up Nero Burning Rom, specify DVD_Video project, click New, drag all files from the VIDEO_TS folder in the directory CloneDVD copied to (if you chose directory X, it would be X\CopiedDVDMovieFiles\VIDEO_TS) to the VIDEO_TS folder in the compilation. Chose image recorder or your burner, (make sure disc is inserted and recognized if you chose burner by clicking disc properties and hitting refresh until you see the empty disc), and click Burn. I also chose to verify contents after the burn (optional).

    9) Insert disc into standalone player, do victory jig.

    Software/versions used:

    AnyDVD (from slysoft.com)

    CloneDVD (from clonedvd.net)

Nero Burning ROm 6.3.0.0 (from nero.com)

This gave me menus, standard movie, directors commentary version with deleted scenes etc, play deleted scenes etc by themselves, making of finding nemo documentary, character gallery, the lot. 2nd disc starts with movie (clone dvd is a very good splitter, but as I said, not good for much else). I suspect this could be used as a general solution for 1:1 DVD copying. Hope so, as you have no control over how the thing is split with CloneDVD, which is really the only variant between movies. Expensive, but I don't have time to be directly editing ifo's etc and I had some spare cash.

    UPDATE:

A success!! Ok..I finally got this movie "FINDING NEMO" to work as I wanted now I can do it with most movie to preserve 100% of the menu & movie (and discard the rest, extra, ads, etc..) In this case "FINDING NEMO" will fit into 1 DVD disc with only these items. Disc 2 is optional.

Here's how I done following this instruction I was able to tweakin'

    Tools:
    1. DVD Decrypter
    2. DVD X COPY (I use v1.5 on this movie)
    3. IfoEdit (to modified to start menu at insert of DVD into root menu)
(JumpSS_VTSM) Jump to Titleset Menu: Title Nr:1, Titleset Nr:1, Menu:root
    4. DVD Shrink (optional on this movie unless you want to compress more, because I want only menu & movie)
    5. I Burn with CloneDVD 1.3.11.2 (sheephead) in this case my RecordNow cause an error..I have to use CloneDVD.

note: Just in case you don't want the 321 warning from DVD X COPY..copy the VIDEO_TS.IFO/VOB/BUP files from your DVD Decrypter files to replace the DVD X COPY files.

I have tried several times and the backup runs smoothly no errors! & workable menus! On couple standalone & PC.

  30. holy smoke! you went thru all that trouble just to burn Nemo? Since you mention in of of your many steps that you used CloneDVD. Why just just use CloneDVD-->select the main movie-->select preserve menu--> and rip to hard drive or burn directly to burner? I have no problem doing this way and was able to burn at 100%.
