  1. A friend of mine is trying to copy a video tape. He said the picture is coming through clear on the copy but the audio is cutting out. He used the same copying setup to make copies of other tapes with no problems.

My questions - is this some type of MacroVision/copy protection type of thing. I was under the impression that Macrovision distorted the video, but I haven't heard anything about audio scrambling.

Any help figuring this out would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    E

Hey, this is REALLY the wrong forum for this, isn't it?

  3. I couldn't find a better forum - I figured people who did a lot of ripping would know the most about copy protection. Has anyone had this experience with audio and copy protection?

    Thanks.

Are we copying tape to tape here ?
You could plug the TV into the Destination VCR while recording
and check the audio is working ?

The copy protection will only be on the vision. I suspect that the player is having problems picking up the fm audio off the tape .You could try switching off hifi sound and seeing if it will playback the standard linear sound track

  7. Right now he is going tape to tape - I am going to take my E60 over there and see if it has the same problems.

Thanks for your input - sounds like it is not a copy protection problem, but some sort of A/V hardware problem. I just didn't want to schlepp my E60 over to his house without being pretty sure it was going to work.
