  1. I'm new to this. I want to convert files, have installed kristal pack codecs and nimov and more...but when I trie to open a file I get this message illegal mpeg stream video. I tried finding the older version of TMPGEnc12a but can't find it. I'm not certain where I should place the codec files and if I must place avi and mpg files in the template files of tmpgenc. Can someone guide me step by step?

    than you

    hi
Haven't got round to installing version 2 yet - but there is a link to download older versions on the (japanese)TMpeg sit - I use version 12i. Make sure you install the VFAPI file to get it to work properly.
What are you trying to convert. If changing div x to mpegs, make sure that the audio is uncompressed - you can convert to differnet formats using virtual dub and then try them out, The how to guides on this site willl help you get going properly.
If you have installed the krsytal codecs - make sure that you uninstall previous versions of divx - cos the previous (hacked) version interferes with the install, Go to control panel, sounds and multimedia and devices, select video codecs and select div x 3 and remove. Now run the install exe in the krystal codecs to get the new versions to install.
Try and get a hold of the pic video codecs if you can - worth forking out for to remove the pic video adverts although there are hacked versions available (i believe). There is also a panasonic/xing mpeg encoder that is quite useful.
THE BEST ADVICE IS GO THROUGH (SLOWLY) THE HOW TO GUIDES and experiment. Print out the guides so you can refer to them as you go along.

Version 2.0 of Tempgenc des'nt open divX avi files.I had an older version earlier, but after reinstall of my computer i downloaded version 2.0. The earlier version opened Divx files. And the link to the Spanish? site to download older versions does'nt work either.. First I convert the sound in Virtuadub to wav file. Then I have to Convert the Divx to mpg in Ulead Mediastudio pro. Finaly I open TMPGEnc Adding sound to the mpg file....A lot of work...many hours..I hope to find a program to do all conversion in one step..*smile*

  5. Thanks for answering my question. I have printed the info and am following the guide step by step. I have installed the codecs properly and was able to open my files under TMPGEnc. Now i'm encoding and hoping everything will work when I burn it.

    Thanks

cramon, TMPGEnc2.0 converts DivX to MPEG as well. First convert the sound to .wav, then encode video and audio seperately and mux afterwards.
