    when i try converting a avi to a mpeg with tmpgenc the file size always comes out to be more than a gig. can you tell me what i have to do to make the file smaller or do i have to change settings to make the size smaller?

    Yes, you can adjust the bitrate to make the file smaller. Just be sure not to lose too much quality by lowering it too much.
