Problem with SVCD picture that various from TV to TV

I had a question and I hope someone can anwser it..

when I encode SVCD's from avi files which are 512x480.. and watch them on my dvd player, the tv I'm watching it on it a big screen (the old models) and that letterbox, that is on top and bottom, fits the screen perfect. but when I use the same dvd player but a different tv, the picture comes out different.. the letterbox that is at top and bottom is different from the first tv.. why is that. and how can i get both tv's to show the same letterbox or picture size with the same svcd settings i used to encode the movie

your have set the wrong res for your SVCD
