  1. I have DVDshrink v3 beta5 and with deep analysis it can take up to 2 hours to complete a movie with 40% compression. Is there anyway I can tweak my system to increase speed? I have a 200Gb HD that is dedicaded just to video with 1Ghz PIII, 1Gb RAM and WinXP Pro. Are there any system or OS settings or hard drive setings that can be changed? Should I disable Norton Antivirus which runs in the background?

Sounds about right. It is a very cpu intensive process. Your 1GHZ cpu is a little behind the times.

  3. I have a hard time seeing any difference using deep analysis so I just don't use the option which of course really speeds things up.

Sorry to say yr PC needs an upgrade!
    CPU and M/B most definately.

My DVDShrink processing time on a P4 1.8 is roughly about 1hr with the deep analysis option enabled.

    Hope this helps!

  5. On my XP1600 system it takes about 50 mins to do a deep analysis. Then about 30 mins to shrink the file.

  6. Yes, Deep analysis can take 55+min and to encode about 35min.

I use Deep analysis beuase at the higher compressions, quality may become a visible issue on my 50" widescreen.

Upgrade sounds good!! I will look at the AMD chipset becuase of the price and the fact that what ever I buy will be old tech in one year!

Interesting comparison of processing times for the deep analysis. I'd never seen figures for different processors before. I'm using an overclocked 2100+ processor and it takes about 25 minutes to use the deep analysis, another 25 or so to encode.

  8. I have an AMD Bartonn 2500+ (OC 11x200) and deep analysis takes about 25min, then another 15-25min to transcode (depends on level of compression needed).

So as others have said it's your CPU. A 1ghz machine is going to be very slow for digitial video editing. Skipping deep analysis will speed things up, but result in lower quaility for backups with lots of compression.

  9. hi machine man ,
you need to upgrade your CPU if you want it faster,
I have 2.4 ghz P4 with 512Mb and for me it takes the longest 45 mins.
than to burn it another 14mins.
