Hi guys, I'm posting to ask a couple questions, mostly becuase I'd like to know:
Why on my Compaq Armada 1750, does it beep constantly. When I put headphones on, it beeps (not loud, but it gets annoying). When I record something from a microphone and transfer it to another computer, it still has that beeping in the background. Whenever I listen to, or record something on it, It always has beeps. What is this????

    My second question is:
Does anybody know where to get a laptop hard drive (about 20gb, not much) for cheap, and also some RAM (about 64 or 128).

    Thanks

  2. Here's the link for RAM
    20gig Hard drive

You could also try newegg.com and check there prices.

If you mute the speakers through the control panel does it still beep?? IF it does maybe your audio card is messed up. I'd uninstall/reinstall the driver for the audio and see if that fixes it. But compaq's are a pain in the @$$ to fix. [/url]

  5. Goto Hardware Manager and in audio devices (or something like that) find your sound card and Goto Porperties. Uninstall the drivers. Find updated new drivers at manufacturer's website or driverguide.com

I tried that but it didn't work. And I couldn't find any updates for a:

ES1869 Plug And Play AudioDrive (WDM)

So what should I do now?

  7. If you do what mujahid7ia suggested it won't work because you uninstalled the drivers. You have to go to the compaq site and try to download from them. You might have to request a Driver cd-rom. COMPAQs are a B!TCH to fix when drivers are concerned. You can't just "update" you have to go to the device manager - update driver - insert the cd-rom from compaq. 1st find the driver you need which are all numberd 1000-74,232 or some ridiculous amount. Then restart do it again and then restart and then... it should work. But that's the hard way to do it.

Need some more info from ya :P
    Which OS do you have?
Do you have any kind of install disk that came with the computer?
A recovery disk should have came with it. When you go to update that driver it will be on that recover disk.
If you disable the ALL audio devices in the device manager does it still beep?

Do you use a phone modem (56k)? That might be playing some type of audio, you the phone dial noise and what not? Try muting that option

Are there any programs running in the background that play audio?
    MMJB or WMedia player

Go to the control panel and open your sound controls. Go to the volume level adjustment screen. The one that says Main, Wave, MIDI... Click options then proerties and add ALL the unchecked boxes. Then go thru and "MUTE" each setting one by one and try to see if one of those stops it.

I can't think of anything else without some more info from ya

I have Windows XP. I have NO discs at all that came with it. I use a Cable Modem to connect to the internet. Even when I'm not on the internet, I hear it. Even when there are no Media Players running, I can still hear it, but I have Windows Media Installed only. When I go to the Volume Control, I mute everything and it still beeps. So you are saying to go to Compaq site, and request a driver disc?

  9. Maybe there's a cable installed backwards on your motherboard. I can't believe they didn't give you a recovery disk of some kind. That really sux.

You may want to try a different set of speakers?
If it's still under warranty I'd take it back and have the store fix it for you.

I'm not sure I understand your problem exactly. Does only make noise when you use your mic and headphones?

If you unplug your mic does it still make the noise?

So you are saying to go to Compaq site, and request a driver disc?
Yup, they'll mail you a package of CD-ROM's with every driver COMPAQ ever made and you have to decifer which one goes where. There's a screwball program they give to help you a little. Or they'll give you some type of restore disk specific to your computer and hardware.

No matter what I use, (headphones or external speakers) it still makes that noise. Its like "beep beep beep beep beep....(2 Secs of silence)...beep beep beep beep beep..." and so on. The thing is, I bought it from a co-workers friend. There is no warranty that I know of, and I know he didn't mess with the insides of it. Perhaps maybe a new soundcard or something?? What do you think??

  11. Here's a list of beep codes for compaq. None of them are what you described but I thought maybe you might see something familiar. http://mcsx.co.uk/beep_codes_compaq.htm
Do you have an external sound card or are you using the one built in to the motherboard. If it's external (PCI Slot) then unplug it from the MoBo and try the onboard audio. If your using the onboard audio then all I can think is to reload the drivers but since you don't have the Disks your kinda stuck. I would hit up COMPAQ and request the driver CD's I was talkin about earlier. If you don't have a PCI audio card then yeah you could buy one and see if that solves the problem. If it doesn't you could always play dumb and return it I would try to borrow one from a friend 1st though. The worst scenario: your Mobo is the problem
