A VOB file contains an MPEG file . You can extract it with Vobedit..
You have to extract the video and audio separately and multiplex them
    together again.

Or you can load the VOB into Virtual Dub mod and frameserve it to TMPGEnc for demuxing.
    Hello.

I thought you knew about these things FOO. Virtual dub/frame serve/ tmpg/ no problems.

I do. Nobody said anything about re-encoding. He just wants an MPEG
I sure as hell wouldn't encode if I already had a file containing
an MPEG2 video. The fastest way is demux audio & video & remux to MPEG2

even faster is to rename the file to .MPG but that's cheating

You can't frameserve to TMPGenc Mpeg tools to demux.
DVD2AVI does not produce a demuxed M2V , only the audio.

I think I see the confusion. When you use the procedure I mentioned, we do not use the TMPGEnc MPEG tools. We use the main program to demux or convert to MPEG-1 or -2. Hope I was a little clearer.

Virtual Dub mod running Matrix Reloaded VOB.

TMPGEnc Plus running the frameserved video.

With Womble MPEG2VCR, you can open your VOB file and simply save it as an MPG file.

  10. I don't understand why people aren't replying with the simple solution.

Rename the .VOB file to have an .MPG extension instead, and it will play as an .MPG file.

The only thing that will not come out are subtitles, if the film has subtitles. (I'd like to figure that one out.)

Otherwise, it works fine. No conversion necessary.

  11. If you rename a .VOB to .MPG, sometimes it doesn't give desirable results. When I have tried changing the file extensions, about 4 out of 5 times the MPG plays fine. But for some VOB's that I give an ".MPG" extension to, the MPG ends up playing at about half-speed and everyone talks with a deep, baritone voice - they kind of sound like monsters!

Sometimes it doesn't work right to simply change the file extension to ".MPG". I don't know why sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

  13. Womble's Mpeg-Vcr works as stated above.
You might also try opening the vob in Womble's new "Mpeg Video Wizard".
Works very well for editing vob and saving as...
Great for pulling out selected clips from them as well.

I've never had one play at half speed from renaming it. Hmmmm. Interesting. Anyone know why?

If a man is standing in the middle of the forest speaking and there is no woman around to hear him. . . is he still wrong?
