  1. Can someone please give me a difinative answer to these questions please , i have read all sorts of threads but cant seems to hit the nail on head

    1. i have a pioneer 106d oem and want to make it region free , i`m not interested in making it go at 12x speed just region free , can it be done ?

    2. what is the best thing to make windows region free , is there software or a hack that will do this

    3. if a region free hack exists for one of the above , will i need the other region free hack , and if i do why , if one is hacked isnt that good enough

    4. There is plenty of chat from experienced users about the pros and cons of upgrading firmware but how do ya find out what your existing firmware is ?

if everything is working fine now do i really need to hack anything , is it a case of , if it aint broke then dont try and fix it or will i eventually fall over due to not applying question 1 or 2 or both

Asking for help in copying DVDs from "a few sources" is definitely against forum rules. Please read https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=124514.

Pause the post screen after you re-boot. It should be displayed there.

  4. unless I am missing the boat here, the original poster has asked nothing wrong.

OK region freeing is basically making you dvd-rom able to read a dvd from any region (ex. US is region 1, Europe is region 2, etc. -ps I actually dont know what region europe is, its an example). What this will allow you to do is play dvd's that you have purchased from other regions. I believe that dvd players allow you to change a region up to 5 times, but dont quote me on that. Anyway, if you plan on purchasing dvd's from around the globe to play in your pc dvd rom player, then you get purchase a dvd region freer. click on tools and then search for "region" and there will be a few options.

On your second and then third question, I have NO idea what you are talking about as it has nothing to do with dvd stuff

on #4, download dvdinfo, it has a utility that tells you your firmware version

Basically, the only time you'll need to use a region free"r" is if you plan on playing/backing up dvd's from different regions.

DVD Region Free - but it will cost you, around $40.

Will work with any dvd rom/writer.

You could use hacked firmwares, but they are risky. and also if you use hacked firmware, you will certainly invaildate your warranty.
