I have successfully converted many avi films to dvd using "The Film Machine" incorporating CCE.
However, 2 avi's give trouble.
about halfway through the conversion process the following error appears:
CCE ENCODING FAILED
***COULD NOT WRITE TO THE FILE <D:\……….ENCODED_VIDEO_CCE_NTSC.MPV***
THERE IS NOT ENOUGH SPACE ON THE DISK
[WINDOWS ERROR CODE 0x 70112]
I then click OK and the following error appears:
FEXP_CLOSE() FAILED;
***COULD NOT SET THE FILE SIZE <D:\........ENCODED_VIDEO_CCE_NTSC.MPV***
THERE IS NOT ENOUGH SPACE ON THE DISK
[WINDOWS ERROR CODE: 0x 70112]
There is over 40Gb free disk space.
I tried running it through avi-repair, but the problem still occurs.
The avi's play fine in media player.
Please help.
Windows XP Pro, Athlon XP2400+, 512MB DDR, 80GB HDD.

Just a guess ...
Are you running FAT32 or NTFS file system? If FAT32 -- is it possible the file is exceeding the 4GB FAT32 file size limit? -
Yes, I am running FAT 32,
Good point,
I have a second unused 40GB HDD in my pc
If I format that to NTFS and use that for storage of converted files, will that work? -
That should work just fine.
You could also run the "CONVERT utility to change FAT32 partitions to NTFS (type "convert / ?" from a command prompt for syntax info). It is part of Win 2000/XP and it is a non-destructive conversion. I've performed it several times on live drives and have never lost data. Use with caution though, as there are never any 100% guarantees -- especially w/ MS.
If you have another 40GB lying arround, you may want to install it and create an NTFS software RAID 0 array. This will increase drive performance and join it with the other 40GB drive to appear as 1 virtual 80GB drive!! Cool !!!!
Good luck -
Thanks, How much performance increase will I get by setting up another drive with RAID 0 ?
-
That's really hard to say, but if I had to guess w/ a software RAID 0 array -- maybe 20+% increase in read performance and a smaller increase in write performance -- but Windows caches writes anyways!! I was getting 80MBps burst reads with 2x 8GB 5400RPM ATA66 drives in a software RAID 0 array via WinXP. Pretty decent perfromance out of very mediocre drives.
While the drives do not have to be identical 40GB drives -- it would certainly help if they were the same RPM and ATA spec (i.e. 2x 7200RPM ATA100's, or 2x 5400RPM ATA66's, etc.) The array will be as slow as it's slowest drive. The drives do not even have to be the same capacity, but the array will only format out to 2X the size of the smallest drive in the array (i.e. 1x 40GB and 1x 30GB will only format out to 60GB -- or 2x 30GB).
Remember -- this would be a software RAID array (unless your mobo has a imbedded hardware RAID controller chip), so there will be additional CPU overhead involved. I'd say if you are at 1GHz+ CPU -- should pose no problem, though. -
Yep, sound like the 4GB barrier in FAT32 ........
I used PartionMagic 8 for all my HD setups, and converting to/from NTFS/FAT32 is a doddle using this util
No need to format or do anything, let PartitionMagic do it all for you. I have yet to lose any software, and I have really messed around with my partitions using this software plenty of times when tidying up my HD's
I'm sure there must be a freebie util that can convert from FAT32 to NTFS without having to buy more software
Just in case you have WinXP, have a look at this link I found just now, maybe it may be better to buy software designed for the job, and not trust built-in software 100%

I was re-reading the orginal posting. Do you have 1x 80GB drive in your system now and a 40GB installed with nothing on it? If so -- forget the RAID idea and just format the 40Gb as NTFS.
If you currently have 2x 40GB (80GB total) now, and have a 3rd 40GB drive, then RAID would be a good idea -- keeping the primary boot drive (O/S, etc.) as a single non-RAID drive and configuring the 2nd and 3rd 40GB as a 2 drive RAID 0 array.
Sorry if I confused matters. Anyhow -- NTFS will solve the CCE error if it is caused by hitting the 4GB file limit.
