Hi all,
I'm asking for some help here....I've already looked at guides galore on different forums and I've done searches and downloads but I still can't get the, I think ONE, step I'm missing...
What I'm doing is...
I use DVD Shrink, do the re-authoring to choose just the main movie and audio, split the movie in half so I don't have to compress it (because compressing it makes the quality go down right???) then I choose my start and end frames for the fi![]()
rst half of the movie, save that to a file on my desktop, then I do the same for the second half of the movie - so my final dvd will be on 2 disks...that's ok.
It's THEN that I have no clue what to do....at first I just used Nero and burned the VOB files to a dvd-r and I got the movie to play on my computer ok but not in my Philips DV-434 which supposedly plays practically everything according to other users on other forums.
I know there's a step, "converting" the file (to SVCD is what I want) or maybe other things that I'm not doing.
Like I said, I've had the burner a few weeks now, I've been on a few different forums and looked at many users guides done the searches but I still can't get it....I have all these movies backed up on my computer and they're taking up alot of space so If someone could spell out for me the steps I'm missing I would GREATLY appreciate it!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!!![]()

You should have a folder with some vobs, ifos and bups. Then it is just to burn as DVD-Video:

If you only have vob files you have done something wrong.... -
OK, here we go:
Run original thorugh DVD shrink either with or without compression.
Output the disk or the 1st hald to a folder, ANY folder will at this time.
Run the 2nd half of the movie and out to a 2nd folder ( name them 1+2 )
Open nero and chose DVD/New/Other format/DVD/Movie
Nero with have created a pair of DVD folders for you an AUDIO_TS and a VIDEOS_TS folder.
Open the now empty VIDEO_TS folder.
Locate the 1st set of FILES that Shrink created, NOT a folder, and drag them to the VIDEO_TS folder that Nero created for you.
Click on burn and wait till it's done.
Repeat the procedure with the files that correspond to the 2nd half of the movie.
This should work 100% of the time.
I'm still usint the last update of NERO 5 and what 100% result with all the movies I've backed up.
Hope this helps out.No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!
I did it and if plays great on my player!
One more question - can I back-up or make a sort of compressed disk or "data disk" of the files in addition to these "full version movies" in case something happens to these? Hope you get what I'm trying to say here...lol. -
What you have are compressed data disks. If you compress them even more you will get a noticeable loss of quality which you will never be able to get back.
Why are you splitting the files onto 2 disks? I use DVDShrink to backup movies that are on manufactured DVD9 onto DVD-R but don't bother backing up all the menus and extras, just the main movie. I've found that by the time you remove the crap and reauthor just the main movie with no foreign audio tracks and subtitles, many films don't need any compression at all. Of those that do, it isn't a lot (maybe 80% at worst using Shrink 3 beta). Doing deep analysis (which appears to be two pass vbr) any quality loss is not noticable even when played back on a Sony 32" widescreen TV.
