Hi everybody, I have been browsing this website for quite a while now and just decided to register a few days ago. I just want to say that I think that all of you guys and gals are great and that it's good to see such friendly and helpful people here. I hope that someone might be able to help me with my problem now:

I bought a Philips DVDR890 about 6 months ago here in Australia and apart from the video quality (even in HQ mode), I was generally happy with my new recorder. This was until slowly but surely I started to have different problems with both recording and playback.

prob#1- I recorded a TV show on a brand new +RW disc and even though I could see that the disc had been burned, the recorder would not play it back. It had not even created a menu thumbnail for it or anything.
Both my other player nor my PC drive would not recognize the disc either, both of which have had no problems with +RW discs in the past.

prob#2- I did a timer recording on another +RW disc and when I went to watch the programme, I discovered to my horror that the display said "EMPTY DISC"- It had completely erased EVERYTHING on the disc for some reason.

Please note: I have since re-recorded on both of those above discs and had no problems whatsoever.

prob#3- I was watching a VCD when suddenly the unit just completely shut down and showed this code on the display- AE335D3
I have watched many VCDs on this unit and never had anything like this happen.
Once I turned the unit back on, It returned to 'normal' function.

I have read that many other people have had problems with this model and am starting to think that it is a piece of shite and want to return it for something else.

Oh... just one more bitch about PHILIPS: I bought this unit at Harvey Norman and was supposed to get 10 free +R discs with it, but PHILIPS never sent them to me like they were supposed to.

Sorry if this is too long, but I wanted to be thorough so no-one misunderstands what is happening. Thanks in anticipation.
