  1. Hi guys I recently purchased a DVD burner & I'm getting my feet wet in this wonderful world of duplication. I make dvd copies for a few of my friends & family-why is it that sometimes the movie will read in their DVD players & sometimes it won't & i'm always using the same media (Ritek). Is it the programs that i'm using? I copy Dvds to my hard drive using DVD Shrink103 & then I use Pinnacle Instant copy to resize the movie & burn it. Is this method effective? Should I use other programs. Please explain me the easiest or better yet the most effective way to duplicate a DVD that is over 4.5GB & keep the menus.

    Thank u so much guys!
    I'm a rookie.

Some players won't play burned DVD's. ( I stand to be corrected)

  4. Also be careful what you're copying for your friends and family - if it's copywrited material it's a no no. Homegrown stuff is OK, but pretty much anything else would be illegal.

Mighty Crown, I second the copyright stuff garryheather mentioned!!
You cannot simply talk about distributing copyrighted stuff to friends and family in these forums!!!

My suggestion (provided you ARE NOT to copy yr movies and pass them on to yr mates!! ) is:

    1. Download DVDShrink 3.0 Beta 5 and use that for your ripping/re- encoding of yr backups (its a brilliant piece of software especially for newbies!! you will also find plenty of guides on using it!!)

    2. Use yr preffered burning prog (I use Nero cause my DVD player is happy with it!)

    3. Be patient with compatibility issues!!! Not all DVD players are happy with DVD-r, +r etc.
There are sooo many parameters (DVD media, burning methods, etc.) that come into play. Its a matter of trial and error! There are no guarantees that if a DVD backup plays in a specific DVD standalone it will play in them all!!!(Unfortunately!!! )

    4. Read the very useful guides!! (cant stress that enough!!! 8) )

    Happy backing up!!!!

  6. I go with LeoNaper.

I started off using DVDDecrypter and Pinnacle, the results were amazing. I then started reading about the so called 'Quick Rip' programs and thought that there is no way that one of these programs could produce the same reults in 30 minutes, as Pinnacle does in 3+ hours

I found a guide on here detailing the use of DVDShrink, I thought I would give it a try. The disc ripped to the HD in 9 minutes, re-authored in about 5 minutes and burnt in Nero 6 in about 15 minutes (using DVD UDF/ISO) You can also add back in a region in case of any fixed region players.

    The result:
I am very particular about quality and have to admit that you would have to be very anal to spot any difference between the Pinnacle copy and the DVDShrink copy. The big difference is the time, as you know, using DVDDecrypter and Pinnacle takes anything from 3 hours upward. Using DVDShrink and Nero takes around 30 minutes from start to finish.

I now can't think of any reason why I would need to go back to using the slower methods. The thought of backing up my collection (250+ discs) using Pinnacle was a very daunting thouht, no it's no problem at all.

My advise, go with DVDShrink, it's fast, easy to use and the end result is, in my opinion, faultless.

    Thanks
