  1. I've downloaded several movies off the net using various file-sharing programs, their extension is AVI which I'm assuming means they are Divx (compressed), and they play fine with MediaPlayer since I have installed the latest divx codec (4.01). But, I have one 'recent' movie that I just cannot get to play. I have downloaded this same movie from 3 different sources, all in AVI (divx?) format yet none will play. No error, it just plays with blank video and audio. Is this most likely a different type of divx? I have the latest version that's been posted on http://www.divx.com which is 4.01 . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  2. not all avi files are divx.

a friend sent me some webcam movie in avi format and i couldnt play it until he sent me the alaris video codec.

most likely your situation would be similar to mine..

the only problem is figuring out what the video codec is

  3. Right click the avi and look in the summary for the videocodec.
