I have no problem ripping Bruce almighty, but I would like to keep the Menu where they have James Carey touching the sky and making the menu and get rid of all that extra poop and also the previews of lame movies like "bring it on 2" and Sea Biscuit". wanna keep the menu and not have to shrink too much out of the main flick.

My suggestion would be to use DVD Stripper, MenuEdit, & DVDShrink. You can accomplish exactly what you want very quickly.

I ripped it using DVD Shrink. I removed all the subtitles and foreign languages but kept everything else...including the kewl menus. Compressed it down to 4.37gb and burned it with Nero in DVD-Video mode. Works perfectly.

When u guys ripped it, did you manage to get rid of the previews for Bring it on and seabiscuit and those other ones (Mr bean)etc.
When I shrunk it, i still got those, so then i tried making them still pics, but they were still shown in the entirity but in what looked like stop-motion. Then i used dvd2one and got rid of them but the space was still there only it was blank. Its no biggie really as I can just Fforward/nextadv to the title menu. Still would have like to get rid of all that though.

CloneDVD allows you to keep only the menu and movie. I just did POTC and got rid of the annoying movie trailers at the beginning of the movie in addition to all the "extras". Just uncheck everything but the movie, the next screen will tell you that you preserving the menus with movie only.

How did you manage to (or did you) remove those annoying previews? Using Clonedvd, I removed the previews and did a test. The previews are gone, but the time space is still there...In other words, there is no video, just a blank screen for the exact amount of time that the video of the previews would have used if it were left in. Any guideance or is just a necessary evil i have to put up with ?

  11. as wulf said...CloneDVD is best for this type of job. Of course..that's "IF" CLONEDVD is only giving incorrect ratios on the bar as opposed to taking up a ton of unecessary space transcoding due to not accounting for deleting audio tracks. Bruce Almighty has THREE 6 channel audio tracks and a couple of 2 channel tracks. That's totals OVER 1GB of space for audio i'll never use... and that CloneDVD may not give you credit for which means it's going to transcode a ridiculous amount of that movie for no reason.

I personally didn't think the Bruce Almighty menu was cool enough to keep if i'm not keeping any extras...and that movie was the PERFECT movie for a program like DVDSHRINK or DVD2ONE. I prefer DVD SHRINK for that type of movie..because I just did a movie only in reauthor mode and only had to compress 60 MB's after getting rid of everything but the 5.1 English Audio track and the 5MB English Subs.

This is where DVD SHRINK is really an amazing program. The compression ratio was at 99%..and being that only 60 MB's had to be compressed....that's only about 1% of the movie. There was absolutely no type of artifacting or pixelation...unlike other movies where you go under 90% and there are clearly visible artifacts...at least to me. If programs like DVD SHRINK weren't around...I would of had to cut out the ending credits..or REENCODE the entire thing. And cutting ANY of the ending credits is not an option for me...so DVD SHRINK saved me a good..oh.....6-7 hours. If anyone else cares about quality and won't sacrifice any quality for a menu or extras...then this is absolutely the way to back this title up.

    well defense
I agree in part. I pretty much get rid off all that audio before I go into clonedvd. I keep the menu and roughly 95% of the main movie, with credits and the flubbed scenes after the credits are shown.
Problem is when I go into clonedvd is that I still get that annoying 5 min (give or take a min) preview of upcoming films or films on dvd. When I select to keep the menu and main movie I have no probs there, there problem is that when finished, I will still get that annoying 5 min preview, only without the video, but the 5 min is still there, only blank. I want that GONE! LOL. I can always just past it, but this is becoming a crusade with me now.

  13. @ jaxxboss....humm..that's interesting...that must be another problem with CloneDVD. CloneDVD puts a blank PGC for everything you don't select..but for some reason...the previews were left at the full 5 mins..just without the picture. I almost did keep that menu because it was unique in that when Jim Carrey points the menu options come up...I just figured it was a little bit of a nuisance...and with all options weighed..I figured..why not just have it start up at the main movie....with barely any transcoding..it was pretty much a rip and strip type of deal.

That stinks that CloneDVD didn't get rid of those previews completely...that would definitely be annoying to me. If it bothers you alot..you can always make another copy using DVD SHRINK like I mentioned...that way you have pretty much the entire movie with almost no transcoding..and that starts right from the immediate opening credits/movie.

Or you could probably just open IFOEDIT on that CLONEDVD output...and you can strip out the one cell id for those opening credits. Although..i'm not sure how CLONEDVD outputs its cell id's. You can check though...if it's a seperate cell...just uncheck it and you'll be good to go.

InstantCopy 8 will do it all with ease, drop what you want, keep the menus etc. People tend to go on about the various free solutions. But IC 8 does it well and easilly, while producing the best video quality of the lot.

Don't bother with the .251 version floating around the webb, it's really just a beta.

  15. Used DVDshrink 3.0b5 with 100% compression for a lossless backup of Bruce Almighty keeping the AC3 5.1 soundtrack, and getting rid of all the junk and menus and that are annoying. It's nice to just put it in and start watching a movie in its original quality while keeping my original safely stored away.

CloneDVD to eliminate movie promos and extras and have no blank space play, complete removal you need to use Ver 1.3.9.8 or higher. Earlier version do leave blank space.

  17. There is an easier way in IFO edit. Open the VIDEO_TS.IFO then look at top frame. First item down from top is VGM MAt ??? I'm too lazy to look again... then First Play PGC.... highlight that then scroll to bottom.

    Find where it says Pre-command

    Edit

    Select Jump to Titleset Menu

    Set to 1 / 1 / root

save. Now it should jump the dead space left by clone and go straight to the menu. You may need to change title or chapter to make it work but these are 1/1 most of the time.

Guide on this was somewhere around here I think.

  18. I tried the method of EZMD's post (my normal way of bypassing previews), but as the OP said:
but I would like to keep the Menu where they have James Carey touching the sky
When bypassing this using IfoEdit, it does not show Jim Carey actually touching the sky creating the menus, it just skipps to the start of the root menu. This type of menu has had me stumped with quite a few movies (Lion King comes to mind). I woud think that IfoEdit could be used to start the DVD when Jim touches the stars, but I just don't know what the settings would be.

I know this sounds kind of picky, but there are quite a few DVD's with great menus and I would like to get the most of them.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dave

  19. Just for the record.... it's Jim Carrey... not James Carrey.

  20. Instantcopy8... Movie only keep menu. The best way to do it replaces all removed Video with a blank screen that plays for less than 1 second. If you select extras in menus a blank screen flashes and brings you back to the menu....It wont play for the duration of the removed video.

Unfortunately Jim does stand for James as far as I'm concerned.

You could use IFOEdit from the get-go straight from the source and strip out the cell id of the previews. By the sound of it the bit where he points to the sky might be another cell id in its own right and not a menu as such. Therefore if you only get rid of the cell ID that is the previews, you should be done.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  23. A lot of people tend to forget that DVD95Copy has been blanking out whole titlesets for a long time. So if you have it, use it to blank out every titleset except the movie titleset and you're good to go with movie and menu.

    I did it with Decrypter > Instant Copy 7 > pdi2iso > Decrypter

It took 66 minutes in Instant Copy. Main movie at 75% (I think), menu's at 100%, all extras at 30%.

    Looks great.
