I'm a computer tech and for data and cdrw's in general I found that the brand of media that you'll have good luck with depends on the Burner you have as well. I'm recently getting into making vcd's and maybe soon some svcd's but I was wondering about the media for doing that. I have in the past been sent a vcd by a friend that would not play in my stand alone dvd player. It was blue backed and I copied it with my burner to a silver backed Imation disk and it worked. My question is for vcd playability is there any hard set rule on what to use or a better brand? Or are you still talking what works best with your hardware/software?

    TIA

I find Fuji discs to be the most reliable cd-r's for most anything i use. data, movies, music & games.

  3. I only know of 3 CD-R's (and CD-RW's) that work in my Sony DVD player, that is a nightmare to source CD media for, I can tell you.

However, for general data use, I tend to use Taiyo Yuden (who Fuji use on ocasion, as it happens) for stuff I want to keep. Otherwise whatever I can get my hands on for the "disposable" stuff, however saying that I have some Datasafe media (Prodisc) which has turned out to be surprisingly good and a bargain price to boot.

I have access to a VideoCD player where I work (you don't see many of those in the UK !) and that can be picky, but the Datasafe's are working very well in that at the moment.

Either buy Fujis that say made in Japan on them so that you get TYs, or goto Rima and get a 100 pack of them for $28 and be happy, best disk ever.
