  1. OK so I have successfully converted several movies from AVI to MPEG and then to vcd but here is my delima.

The AVi quality is well better than Mpeg.. I use Gary's fool proof AVI to VCD manual and the movies come out ok but the quality isint as good as the orignal AVI.

All my movies are encoded as follows
    the AVI files are =

    Audio format MPeg layer 3
    Frame rate 23.976
and the Video Compression is Divx

so I guess what my question is, is there a way for me to burn these movies to cd and still have high quality? Or is there a way to make a VCD out of a avi file without converting to mpeg?

    VCD is pretty low quality.

SVCD is much better quality, for many many reasons. Try DVD2SVCD, a very nice program! It will take AVI's as a file input and spit out BIN/CUEs for burning. It's virtually idiotproof :P

You will get good results if you AVI resolution is in the 512x384 or higher range, and you bitrate is acceptable (no 2 hour 30 minute 1 CDR movies with AC5.1 sound). Lower specs can work, you have to play with them and see.
